  • No, They increased the cost far to much. The Apple i once new loved appears to have disappeared.

Jumping into this thread early just to be a part of the next thread record! Kidding! But seriously, at this point there's almost no chance of kabylake happening in March. They may push the latest skylake, with the 580 iGPU just to brag about increased battery life and maybe throw some aluminium around that LG monitor to sell it as an Apple brand at $1k/$1.5k for 21/27" models, but that's it.

There are many new redesigned components in the new MacBook Pro - touch bar, cooling system, thin case, radeon pro, thunderbolt 3 - so the possibility of instability is bigger.
If that happens, we might see the same move from october 2012, that had a refresh in february 2013.

In this case, adding Kaby Lake and 32 GB DDR4 will look like it was on purpose, to respond to the consumers' requests.

I really think this could happen ... Maybe not changing the processor but incrementing the specs. Next year will probably be with the pencil support IMO. I might hold off for a few months more, unless reviews are overwhelmingly positive.

in my macbook pro from 2010 i have 256/8 configuration.
if i'm in for a new laptop i won't accept anything lower than 512/16.
in my country apple offers that starting at 2539€ (3039€ for the 15").
i can upgrade mine to 512 for 100€, though ram is maxed already.

they can keep their.
i'm waiting.

Oh sweet summer children, expecting new MBP by march. I wouldn't hold my breath for at least a year, by the looks of their latest updates.

They have not yet updated other models.

Maybe not by March, but I'd guess less than a year. Not because of Kaby Lake. Not because of DDR4 RAM. Not because of anything technical or relevant like that. They'll update it because they still have different colors to add. Like gold and rose gold to match the Macbook colors. Maybe even a black and/or jet black.

Trust me. This is what Apple has turned into. More colors = more $$$ = faster updates.

At home, I'm running a mid-2012 rMBP and what a beautiful machine that is. About to jump on this new one, but I think I'll hold off to see more benchmarks before deciding.

Ha, yeah.

It always happens with a major overhaul. Early adopters get to deal with the kinks, and a second-gen is released a short time later. I think March will have small price cuts, Kaby Lake processors, DD4 RAM, new colors, and possibly haptic feedback on the Touch Bar. These are all things that weren't quite ready yet.

64GB? why the heck would anyone need 64GB? That sounds crazy for even the most intensive applications

I think, at the moment, 64GB is mostly for people who do science-stuff but we also have digital cameras pushing 100mpix now and 8K video around the corner..

I have a 2015 15" rMBP. I can wait until summer or fall 2017 when the Kaby Lake quad core chips are out, hopefully with 32+ GB of memory for my VMs and Machine Learning models.

I'm shocked that the new 15" rMBP only has the Intel HD Graphics 530 instead of an Iris Pro variant (I am aware it also has an AMD dGPU). Wasn't the hold up waiting for the Skylake chips with the better iGPU to be ready? The HD 530 is considerably worse than the Iris Pro found in the previous models of 15" rMBPs (looking at notebookcheck). Can someone more familiar with the matter elaborate?

Also, are Kaby Lake iGPUs destined for MacBook Pros going to be significantly better?

This is a sad turn of events. Not only is it a non-Iris Pro part, but there's no option for iGPU-only as with the previous generation. It's cool if others want the dGPU, but removing even the option is a bitter pill to swallow.

Actually, this is the only sign that there will actually be Kaby Lake MBP's. I was convinced that they will only use the Iris Pro iGPU, so the next iteration might have been the 6 core CoffeeLake in 2018, but now I am pretty sure that there'll also be a 15" Kaby Lake and that one will be the first to beat the 2013 Haswell.

The hold-up was waiting for the Touch Bar. In an interview, they said the Touch Bar took over two years to develop. That seems to have been the only thing causing the delay of the laptops.

As the MBPs didn't get the H Processor as expected(?), my question is: Wouldn't there have been Kaby Lake processors - at least for the 13" Dual Core Models - availible already? Especially for the base 13" with 15 W, right?

I've been wondering this as well. U processors are already available and that's what the MBP shipped with.

If you were up to date with your intel rumors, you would know that Coffee Lake isn't guaranteed a GT4e iGPU either. It just looks like Apple gave up waiting for it and went to a lower GT2e/GT3e chip and a dedicated GPU in this generation setting the precedence for the next several updates to come.

Hey look on the bright side, it just means Apple's going to jump on Kaby Lake as soon as it comes out irregardless of the iGPU. You'll probably get a mid 2017 refresh sometime in March then. :)

Kaby Lake H should be out by then right?
