Anyone holding off on the Mac Pro until the w5700x comes out? I'm hoping it's available in the next couple of weeks.

I have a XDR display on order and it arrives near the end of Feb. So if the MP delivery time starts reaching that time and there's no w5700x, I'm going to have to pull the trigger before then.

Already bought my MP, and just picked up an RX 5700XT to drive my old monitor. At some point I'll upgrade the GPU(s), when Octane for Metal is out.

I upgraded from the stock card to the w5700x. Here's some tests I did:

Render of 17 minute show in premiere was 37% faster
Export of the same 17 minutes to prores was 2 minutes longer!
Media encoder encode of same file to H.264: 49 percent faster
Media encoder encode of same file to HEVC 4k: 8 percent faster

Export of same file with gaussian blur added in Da Vinci, 50% faster

No discernible difference in cinema 4d (although I think R22 is supposed to take advantage of cinema 4d more)

Those are decent results, but somehow I'm a little disappointed after spending 1k on the upgrade (800 if i can sell the stock card). Were my expectations too high?

I think it might depend which apps are optimised for Metal, and/or any special stuff in the card. Can't help thinking macOS doesn't tap into the power of these GPUs the way Windows does.

I tried the demo of C4D R22 and the Metal viewport was definitely several % points faster. And that's with an old RX580, not even the X version.
