Do you think if you are in line (or have somebody standing in line for you) by 10am you would be 'safe' or is the general consensus that overnight is the way to go?

To me, overnight is ridiculous. But I would be willing to have a place in line when the malls open.

Opinions?

Since Most Malls don't open before 10am Local Time, It'd be really something to see "the line" before the line forming outside the actual mall the night before.

I doubt that will happen. I'd say around 2-3pm folks will start lining up and by 5:30 they'll be a substantial line.

My Plan of Attack: There's a Starbucks next to the ATT Store, Stay in the Air Conditioned Starbucks, till I see someone line up, then get right behind them.

solid plan! thats what i did for the wii, hung out in my car till some one lined up, i was not number 1 but i was number 2! and i still got the wii so it did not matter!

I agree that waiting overnight for a phone is ridiculous. I like the plan by berkleeboy210 - I plan to do something like this, because there's a Starbucks one block away from the nearest AT&T Corp. Store, and I'll just check on the store every few minutes to see if a line has formed and if so, I'll head over there. I guess I'll get to the store/Starbucks around ... 12-1 PM and see how things are.

One problem with this plan. Since you posted this, everyone will be following along with the evil idea. Can you imagine someone starting the line, then 30 people come swarming and stampeding out of the starbucks to get into line.

I just got a visual on that and wow, that would be a funny video.

For some reason it reminds me of the scene from Shrek 2 where the people run from one Starbucks to the other one across the street.

Which ATT store in Boston? I live in Bay Village and am going to the Boylston Street ATT store across from the library. Maybe I'll see you there haha...what time are you heading to Starbucks?

coffee... walk walk walk iPhone... coffee... iPhone walk walk walk coffee... iPhone  hahaha just kidding around, I just have a funny image of you drinking more and more coffee throughout the day and getting more and more edgy as you walk to check.

You know...I have no idea what kind of demand we'll be looking at. Its really hard to see if the demand will be lacking thanks to the price or if people will go mad insane and start camping tomorrow. I am leaning towards going to the Pentagon City Apple Store so I'll prolly start checking that morning. I took leave thursday and friday so I'm free for easy camping. I'm got gonna get hosed like I was for the PS3 on launch day.

I thought about going to the Pentagon City Apple store or Tyson's but Im afraid it is going to be insane there. Im hoping the at&t where I am at wont be too bad line-wise.

I-phone dont know why you guys are lining up for a phone. I-phone for one am not even that interested in the thing. As a matter of fact, I-phone dont even think it has really even crossed my mind. I-phone might stoll in around 7 or 8 to see if I-phone can still get my iphone. But I-phone really think I-phone will be to excited to get it the day it comes out. Like I-phone said its not that big of a deal to me....LOL

Hey Arn...

You going to pick one up on launch day Arn? Which store you thinkin about crabtree or southpoint? I love to meet up with Arn or anyone else from the area and hang (nerd out) before the launch.

Beyond the fact that your post made very little sense. I think you are lost, this doesn't seem like the right place for ya.

i will be getting the phone, but its the last thing on my mind. i dont think iphone comes before turning 21 and being drunk in public!

I'm glad I'm not the only one in the universe that's distracted due to my iPhone-lust.

There are a lot of realities to camping/waiting in line. One is the very real possibility that if you don't, that you won't get an iPhone from the first shipment. Sources at Apple say there should be plenty to go around, but AT&T reps say it'll be scarce.

From a recent experience:

1. Before camping, make sure the store has "line police" that keep a list of who is in line, and do periodic checks to make sure the same people are in line, to prevent (grrrr...) place-saving jerks. If they do not offer such a thing, the first people in line assume the responsibility.

2. Call a local radio station (a cool one) and tell them how many people are going to be there and how awesome it's going to be. Get their party wagon down there. Preferably one with an Xbox and Guitar Hero.

3. Do not, under any circumstances, expect a decent nights' sleep.

4. Have a runner handy to bring you food. Or be prepared for an awkward explanation to the pizza guy that you want your delivery outside the Apple store.

5. This is gross... but go ahead and use the bathroom at home first. There probably won't be many bathrooms easily available, and you won't want to spend a lot of time in the ones that are.

5. Be prepared to make a lot of "line friends" and have a great time.

While I enjoyed most of your post, the part about AT&T sales reps knowing anything is beyond comprehension, I mean take a moment to think about the sales reps and do you really think apple has told all these people anything? not a drop of info.
