I just got back from the local mall and there were a lot of people trying to get into the Apple Store. There was a line of 20 people that were waiting to get in. They had an employee working the line, letting people in.

Strangely the store itself was not look hugely crowded, maybe 30 people or so. And it's a new bigger store, so there were maybe 4 or 5 people per row of tables of items on both sides. I guess they do not want too people just wandering around without being helped? Or a security measure

Does anyone know if this is a new Apple Store policy?

I don't know if it is policy, but there are benefits to proper crowd management (loss prevention, egress in case of emergency, etc.).

I've seen this happen at a few stores around the holidays, but each time the store itself has been very crowded inside so it made sense.

The last time I saw a line (about 3 weeks ago), it was for people waiting to put the 7 plus. Basically if you ordered the phone for pick up, or wanting just to get one, you were put in a line. General shoppers could mill about.
