:apple: Hey, I am a new member to the forums and just wanted to say hi! :apple:

But onto the topic;

I am ready to make the switch from PC to Mac--- NOW! I want to buy a refurb iMac because of the price difference (around $200 USD). Snow leopard is awesome and Apple should not be upgrading their OS soon but for me, the problem is iLife. I can not seem to pull the trigger on buying a Mac until iLife '10 is released. I have nothing against iLife '09, it is an amazing software but it is like when i buy this iMac I really do not want to upgrade it soon after, that is just a waste of money, especially if iLife '10 comes out soon. To me, upgrading some ninety dollar software is ridiculous, although it should be pretty sweet when it does come out.

Is anybody on the fence for the same reasoning as me?
I would like some advise please :)

There's always a reson to wait

Hey,

I bought a referb MacBook Pro about four years ago now and fell into the same trap. Think like that and you'll never buy a Mac. There's always something just around the corner to delay your purchase.

iLife '09 is incredible as bundled software - it's better than iLife '08, but it was only evolution. Get your referb when the price is right for you and enjoy it. Fill up iLife '09 with all your stuff and maybe upgrade if / when iLife '11 or '12 comes out and there's a real incentive to do so.

Be aware (I _think_ this is true), that referbs often ship with the software they were manufactured with, so if iLife '10 is released, it's possible your ideal machine won't include it. At least in the short term. That's why they're cheaper.

Anyway, to sum up - you'll have your Mac years, just get one and start enjoying it now.

....ps

....PS - I'm reminiscing now, but I remember I was going to wait for Leopard to be released, but it was delayed by iPhone OS..... I bought a Tiger referb because I just could not wait any longer. I had six months of Mac enjoyment before Leopard was released and I didn't feel cheated.

If you want to wait, then wait. I was going to buy a refurb iMac last week. At the last second, I decided to wait until this early winter. Thus, new (upgraded) iMac items should be out at the same time. Probably buy my wanted iMac for this Christmas 2010.

If you can wait (or your heart is telling you to wait), then wait. Life doesn't always have to be "this instant". Or that other famous saying of "Good things come to those who wait...".

Hope this helps...

I mean, i CAN wait but i just do not want to, and i would like to avoid the whole yellow tinge issue in the iMacs, maybe later this fall, i could get a free iPod and/or iLife 2010

I've learned to stop waiting with apple products. You'll wait for iLife, then you'll want to wait for a new refresh of macs. You can't win! Buy if you need it!! :)

I was thinking the same thing but just bought today. It's only $79 if you do want to upgrade and if it is worth it...

Get it today and you will enjoy it quite a bit.

iLife09 is pretty good and I got a refurb that included iLife08 but when I rego'd my apple care for the machine I had just missed the 09 promo price of $9.99 for a CD media kit and the apple care folks just sent it to me as a "thank you" for registering the apple care so that was cool of them... maybe they'll do something similar for iLife10?... it was called the Mac up to date program "last year"...

I'm waiting for a few months for all the problems to be sorted out... what's the deal with ilife does it come free with a new imac...

Considering there is no '"iLife '09" anymore (it's just "iLife" on the web and the packaging) I don't think we'll see an iLife '10 or '11 etc.

They'll just update when they see fit.

I agree. I don't think we will see a iLife '10 or a iWork '10. Not sure about '11 but that is still awhile away...

edit: there may be an update to iWork '09 but I don't think a whole new '10

If you deside to wait then I think you'll be waiting tell mid 2010, this is due to the latest cycle of iLife and iWork software (around 18 months). If it does come out that late it will be call iLife 11.

Could you elaborate how that fits into their business model? Are you suggesting they won't charge customers with substantial updates anymore?

It is still called iLife '09... isn't it?

I mean not on a the desktop, but i think that it is still considered it...

I hope there is not going to be charges like that

Err, that's what they're doing now...Charging for every major release. I'm wondering what he means by an "update". Is he referring to a paid or unpaid update?

i would wait for the next iMac generation because of all the problems, and by then ilife 2010 should have been released

My Prediction.

I think iLife 2010 will arrive when Apple releases the 2010 Generation of Computers (It dosen't matter what kind). I mean like when the Macbook Pros, Mac Pros, Macbook Airs, iMacs, or Macbooks get updated, it is most likely that they will include the 2010 Version of iLife. Anyone Agree?

doubtful. the iLife suite has slowly been going into a longer release cycle rather than yearly updates. i don't think we'll see any major iLife changes this year, just my opinion though.
