Sometimes, I will turn the monitor on, and press a key, and the login screen or the screen saver password box will not appear, only way to fix this is to restart, how can I fix this

Thanks

Sorry for being un-clear

When I expect to get the prompt to get the password to un-lock my my desktop from the screen saver, all I see is a black screen, and nothing works.

That happens a few times a week, and every once in a while, when I am not logged in I will click the mouse, and only see the blue background and no login page or such

this recently just started happening to me after i upgraded to 10.4

im not really sure why but i am thinking it could be because of my external monitor, ipod dock, usb mouse and speakers hooked up....im not sure

you are not alone :(

I haven't upgraded yet, no big rush for me, and it seems too buggy still. Panther is very very stable and fast, I will get around to upgrading to Tiger and Throwing in a GB of RAM this summer

Okay, I'm guessing the following:

- Your settings are set so that your screen saver kicks in first, with a password
- Then, you have the monitor set to sleep
- Then, you have the computer set to sleep automatically

Does this happen when you put it to sleep manually, or only when you let it sleep automatically?

If you only have this issue with auto sleep, try to set your screen to go to sleep time to be "Never." I think if this is the case, there have been some people who have said that if the screen falls asleep before the computer, it won't wake up -- even in Panther. Not everyone, but seemingly just some screens.
