So does Yosemite wi-fi do the auto-reconnect from sleep properly?

Mavericks and earlier versions have had such annoying trouble with their inability to reliably reconnect wi-fi after the Mac wakes from sleep. There have been countless threads here about this issue.

It seems to be the worst on my Mac when it sleeps with Safari open. I typically have to turn wi-fi OFF, then turn it back ON again. Sometimes I then have to go a further step and point it right toward my network name.

Has this problem been resolved with Yosemite?

It hasn't really been resolved. I've been struggling along with it since April. But just in the last two days I think I finally knocked it on the head once and for all.

I reset the PRAM and SMC. Then under System Preferences > Network I created a new location, and then clicked the gear icon at the bottom of the service list, and selected 'Set Service Order'. Then I dragged the services into this order: WiFi, Bluetooth DUN, Bluetooth PAN, Thunderbolt Bridge.

I've been able to use WiFi consistently when waking from sleep.

Thank you; this seems to have seriously helped! Adjusting the Service Order was key!

That's really great to hear. I've found that fixing it this way seems to disrupt Handoff—it still works from Mac to iOS, but not from iOS to Mac. But I've seen some guides to resetting Handoff that make me think the new problem is fixable.

Let me know if you've noticed the same issue.

Absolutely, I will. Hopefully Yosemite release will be tomorrow and we can get playing/testing with it.

Actually I should have become more in tune with the Network, Network Locations and Service Orders all along, as these really offer so much help in the proper configuration of the Mac connections in very versatile environment.

Here is a great article, in case anyone else is struggling with this situation, or wishes to further their knowledge: http://osxdaily.com/2013/06/15/set-network-connection-priority-mac-os-x/
