Wake up Mini!

Anyone experiencing wake from sleep issues on a 2011 Mac Mini?

After waking from sleep the Apple keyboard won't respond and external monitor doesn't receive a signal. Have to restart the Mini, then everything works fine.

When only the monitor goes to sleep it gets signal to wake up, no problem.

The Mini exhibits this behavior in Lion and Snow Leopard. The monitor is connected by Apple HDMI/DVI adapter.
 
You say it's a 2011 Mac mini - which implies the model released in mid-2011 (rather than bought in the first half of 2011).

The mid-2011 Mac mini doesn't support Snow Leopard (officially) so are you using some sort of hack (which could explain the issues you're seeing.

I have a mid-2011 Mac mini running Lion and it sleeps / wakes just fine.

I also have a mid-2010 Mac mini running Snow Leopard, and it also sleeps / wakes without problems.
 
don't sleep the mini just sleep the screen. most power lost is the screen. an idle mini is 9 watts at 30 cents a kilowatt you are 9 x 24 = 216 watts a day 6480 watts a month that is about 2 dollars a month.

Now that is a comparasion that is all sleep against all idle. Since you use the machine some of the time the actual money lost is less. If you use the machine 6 hours a day your extra cost would be 1.50 a month. 6 hours don't count. 18 hours is used for idle vs sleep.
If you use the machine 12 hours a day your cost is 1 dollar a month. 12 hours don't count and 12 hours are used for idle vs sleep. With the snow leopard hack working if your worst proble is an extra buck or 2 a month it is worth it.

Now I am guessing the screen will awake from sleep if you sleep the screen. You could also try a plug in mouse usb type just plug it in the mini and click it this may wake your machine up. This is guessing that you have a mouse and key board that are not plugged in. Last guess is a plugged in keyboard may wake it up.
 
It's weird, because I'm using a new Apple USB keyboard and pressing a key initiates wake from sleep, but once the Mini is running, the keyboard doesn't respond and the monitor gets no signal.

I seem to recall there was some mixup with the monitor settings when first setting up the computer. I've tried resetting PRAM. Maybe monitor and graphics drivers need to be replaced or something in System Preferences is messed up.

Snow Leopard booted right up from its partition. Surely Applewouldn't block that now would they? :confused:

Anyone running the latest firmware update 1.6 that could try booting into the SL installation process to see if it would still work?

Not sure if this is relevant or not but are you sure you have to restart the Mini and not just power cycle the monitor? I only mention it because thats what I have to do sometimes.

I don't leave my Mini on 24/7 and shut it down every two or three day and have it set to sleep relatively quickly as I'm often away from the machine.

After booting it up the first time it goes into sleep (Mini + Monitor) moving the mouse or pressing a key seemingly does nothing BUT I noticed that actually the monitor wasn't coming out of sleep - not the Mini and if I press the monitors power button off then on again it works! yet it only happens on the first sleep after boot up and I can let it enter and exit sleep normally as many times after that :confused:

Latest firmware + Latest updates to Lion

Might be worth you trying the same in case its similar
 
10.6 on a 2011 mini

I would agree with the assements here. I have a July 2011 mini here running lion that sleeps/wakes without any issues.

Being that 10.6 is not supposed to run on these machines and requires a firewire disk mode install to make happen you are walking into uncharted territory. A sort of hackintosh in a way. So I would do all the efi updates for SL and see what happens.

You also stated in your post it booted from that partition. Does that mean you have more than one os installed? If you still have 10.7 on the mini, does is have the same issues waking from sleep?

I have wanted to install SL on my mini for awhile now as I really cannot stand Lion. However, with all the problems I have found in my research I have held off.

Instead of just restarting the Mini... tried this and it worked! Monitor came up no problem.
