Hello,

I am trying to get back to my mac working the way I would like...

...i can remote connect to the file system and the screen when my remote desktop is awake, but I cannot wake the desktop remotely when it is asleep.

I thought back to my mac could do this? I have an airport express base station... and mountain lion running on both macs...

how do i diagnose and setup?

thanks,

r.

One method is to not let it sleep in the first place. Caffeine will temporarily override your energy saver settings and keep your Mac awake with a click on the Menu Bar icon. Another click turns it off.

To keep a Mac notebook awake with the lid closed, use InsomniaX or InsomniaT (rebuild for SL) (fix for 2011 MPBs)

NoSleep also keeps your Mac notebook awake when you close the lid.

my mac pro, with 5 hard drives and 3 screens, would add about $20 to my monthly power bill if i did not let it sleep...!

You must be paying exorbitant rates for electricity. At .15/kwh it's less than $14/mo. to leave it on 24/7.

long island power authority... supposedly expensive electricity due to a nuclear power plant being built but never used... brilliant.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoreham_Nuclear_Power_Plant

but nevertheless, perhaps some help to decipher my power bill...:

basic service: $.36
225 KWG @ .085
82 kwg @ .0975

? different rates for different times?

thanks,

Go to System Preferences, Energy Saver, Power Adapter, and make sure Wake for Network Access is on.

Do you mean KWG or kWh? If it's kWh (kilowatt-hour), you're paying less than 10 cents per kWh. At 10 cents/kWh, your MP would cost about $9/month to run 24/7. That doesn't include the fact that you'd be running it part of that time, anyway, so it would likely cost you less than $4 or $5/mo. to keep it awake when you're not there.
