When I wake up my MBA (re-open lid). I notice for about 5secs I can't use the touchpad, it's inoperable. But after the 5secs it starts working again. This used to be instant then after the Firmware update it does this.

Anyone else noticing this issue?

I noticed the complete opposite. After the EFI 2.0 update, my trackpad is now instantly useable when my MBA wakes from sleep. Before the update the delay was a few seconds.

Lagging trackpad

I've also noticed that my trackpad lags when it is opened from closed lid position. I was used to it on my Powerbook G4 so I have been dismissing it. Should we worry?

On my Air, it depends on how long the lid was closed. It seems like if it's been closed 30-minutes or less, I get a full, nearly-instant on (including the trackpad).

If it's been longer than that, the screen comes on instantly, but the trackpad isn't usuable for a few more seconds. It's like the OS hibernated on its own to save battery.

This has been discussed on these boards several times before. There is a difference between sleep and "deep sleep".

Your MBA goes into "deep sleep" after the lid has been closed for an hour or more. This is what allows it to have the incredibly long (30 day) standby time. The mouse lag coming out of this state is a couple of seconds.

A normally functioning system should have no noticeable lag if it's only been regular sleeping (i.e., lid closed for less than 1 hour).

I have had the same problem with my 13 inch Ultimate MBA. Because it doesn't happen all the time and because the delay in being able to use the trackpad is just a few seconds when it does happen, I have decided to live with it. If having to wait a few seconds before I can use the MBA after opening its lid once in awhile is my worst problem with the MBA, I'll be a happy camper.:)
