Wallet Loyalty Cards?

I know i read that iOS9 will allow more support for store loyalty/rewards cards and that Panera would be one of them.

I have a myPanera card and can't figure out how to add it to the Wallet app. There's nowhere in the Panera app to add it either.

Anyone else had success in it?

Panera has to add it themselves via their app.

That is incorrect - the OP is referring to the new ability of Wallet to apply a user's loyalty program during the tap-and-pay process. This is something that Starbucks and the others cannot yet do (but should be able to do in iOS 9).

They are loyalty cards... inside the Apple Wallet... Exactly what was asked. And Panera doesn't support it.
I scan them, then pay.

If you read what the OP wrote and know about the demo at WWDC, it's pretty clear what they were asking for.

it looks like the only store cards that are going to be in apple pay are kohls and jc pennys
and the only loyalty cards that are in apple pay right now are walgreens , dunkin donuts, and my panera.

as of right now, i don't think any other cards are supported.

its hard to define target as a loyalty card, its more of a coupon that is scanned at the register. they don't support RFID transmission of your cartwheel card

apple pay's rfid transmission of the loyalty card, as i understand it to be now

maybe starbucks and kroger do rfid on android but i dont use it

apple's page says coming soon on both of these.

Exactly the point I was making (but NFC, not RFID, which is a longer-range technology).

There was a small group of Google Wallet supporting merchants that supported applying loyalty cards with NFC payments. Google quietly shut it down a while ago. Android Pay is supposed to do the same thing now, but I don't know which, if any, merchants have actually activated it yet.

yeah i am sorry if i use nfc or rfid and make then interchangeable.

our library has security towers , that detect the tags in books and dvds to make sure they are checked out as you leave the library. several times, my iPhone has asked me if i want to "pay" the towers.

FYI: If you check out this video on the Apple developer page, at around 18:14, you'll see that Apple is introducing a feature that applies loyalty programs at the same time as the payment. They're calling them 'Passes That Work with Apple Pay', and I believe that is what the OP was looking for.

If someone ever made an app to get rid of all those cards on my keychain and in my wallet and that app worked, I'd gladly pay for it. I am so sick of having to carry a loyalty card to just about every store I go to in order to get a decent price. I love the idea of the wallet app but it just doesn't do that yet. With stores making their own apps for their own cards likely means it will never happen thereby leaving me with a cluttered keychain and really fat wallet and not the good kind of fat.

Disappointing adoption by loyalty card issuers in the UK at the moment. Most of our big players in the UK (Tesco, Sainsburys, Boots etc) haven't jumped on board yet. I really wish they would get a move on, it's frustrating to go to a store and realise I haven't bought my loyalty card with me; this is just the problem that Wallet can solve if only enough issuers would get on board.

The few cards that are done already work ok but some that you have to scan over say a register have not worked for me. Hand scanners work but then the convenience is reduced. Gas pumps that take cards for points discounts never scan from my phone so I still carry, like you, cards just so I can get the offered price. I get that the card lets them track your spending habits and lets them target you with ad's and marketing but really, the price should be the lower price without the cards. As it is, most stores will scan a card they have idle at the register if you just tell them you forgot yours somewhere but if the points are worth anything you lose the benefit. This wallet update could come along a little faster but business moves slowly at times.

I have and it worked fine. I just didn't want to rely on a third party app for something that soon should be built in.

I have tried Keyring and as gsmornot said, I think it should be built in. In fact when the whole Passbook thing came out in iOS, I was praying that it was something rid me of all the cards.

I also get that the cards are a way to track purchases. I'm fine with Harris Teeter/Kroger knowing that I always get the fresh chicken at $1.99/lb and not the packaged stuff at $2.99/lb and that I only buy Coca-Cola when it is on sale. I get the purpose of them. It's the shear number of them I hate. My girlfriend has so many of them, she carries a shower curtain ring full of them in her purse. The best thing about Publix is you don't have to have the darn card to get chicken at $1.99/lb or 3 for $9 12 packs of Coca-Cola. I cannot wait until Publix opens nearer to my house.

CDM mentioned keyring, which seems to be more geared to the US, but I'd heard a few times about Stocard for us here in the UK.
Just downloaded it to give it a try, and it seems good! How well does it work in real life? No idea...
Worse case scenario and you have to ask the cashier to manually type in your card number. Which is what I already have to do at my local Costa, where they don't have a card scanner yet...
At least you don't have to physically carry all those cards!

the one update to this old thread is that walgreens now supports sending your loyalty card over apple pay, but it looks like i have to send the loyalty card and the payment separately
