So I noticed Walmart has the Classic for $229, which is $20 off retail. I thinking of possibly picking one up for a friend, but is that a good deal? Because in a few months I might pick one up for myself before Apple discontinues them and keep it in the box.

I actually saw that, they are clearing out their stock it seems. Only black bodied models left. They also have cleared their stock of ATVs. A good indication that both are on their way out soon?

We need the space the classic offers and I was worried that they may be quietly pulled from shelves so I picked one up at that price, just called Apple and had them price match (you then purchase at full price, give order number and they adjust it before it is billed).

If you want one at that price everyone will price match you, I prefer to buy my Apple products via the Apple Store just to be safe but all large retailers should price match (I once had a RROD Xbox 360 sent to me by WalMart, it was swapped out by some ****** WM worker along it's travels... I highly discourage buying electronics from WM).

I went through purchasing a new Classic a few months ago.

For a brand new one, it will be tough to beat that Wal-Mart price.
They had a $199 price for a short time but, like this, online only.

Best Buy, Sam's and Target all sell around $245.

Amazon surprisingly is the most expensive, around $260+ when I was looking.

I ended up buying on Cowboom (Best Buy's outlet store, basically) for about $140.

The one I ended up getting looked brand new, not a scratch on the back.
They have a liberal return policy so it might be worth a shot to check them out.
Also, Amazon Warehouse Deals have good prices.

I just couldn't see myself paying $200+ for ~5 year old tech.
