Wanna get rid of Mountain Lion

Hey, i bought a Macbook Pro "13" with OS X Lion installed on it. since i bought it in july then i had access to the new Mountain Lion when it came out. so the first thing i did was ofcause to download it cause it was so promising and i just wanted something there was new. But the more i used it the more i don't like it. It slowed down the computer a lot, it takes longer to boot up and lots of my apps doesnt work anymore. So that i wanted to know, is can i get back to use OS X Lion again? or do i need to roll my computer back to the day i bought it?

I had similar problems when I upgraded to 10.8.2, so I downgraded to Lion. But to do that I had to go back to the beginning. I'm using Lion now and the speed/response increase is marvelous. I hadn't realized how much slower my MBA had become with ML.

Mountain Lion has really made me think it's time to go back to Windows. My IMAC 27 is 2.5 years old, yet ML forces on the fan even when the machine is cold. I am reading plenty of Internet posts about overheating when using ML. I had never even heard my fan before installing ML.

System is also slow to wake up after sleeping.

Not sure what is causing your issues, but my experience has been the reverse - performance improved significantly with Mountain Lion.



Q: how full is your drive?

If it is fairly full, when you installed ML, the files would probably have been fragmented as the machine tried to find holes of free space to put them in.

If you do a clean install of ML (ideal - this is basically what you need to do to downgrade to Lion anyway), or upgrade when you have 50% free space or so I suspect your results will be different.

According to the system, I have 700.5 GB free out of 999.35 GB. Plenty of space available. I have just turned on my IMAC (am in the UK, so it's after several hours off overnight) and within seconds the fan has come on. But the day before yesterday after quite heavy use it didn't come on at all. This issue is unpredictable for me. But Internet searches do show many people commenting on overheating issues with ML. As I said before, I had never even heard my fan before the "upgrade" in late July.

I think a clean install may be the answer as you suggest. But what a pain. This time overhead is not what I need right now. Reverting to Lion from Time Machine back-ups may be a quicker alternative.

Does activity monitor show any particular process consuming CPU?

Its possible that some software you had installed pre-upgrade is somewhat incompatible with ML...

Definedly recommend clean install. Just make sure you have your Time Machine backups made, and after clean install, DO NOT restore from time machine, but manually copy your media back, install newest version of programs and so on...I bet you will see a much faster system. This way there are no old libraries and crap laying around...

Trust me I did the clean install after seeing the performance degradation. But it didn't help, starting up time increased, shutdown time shot from around 5 secs to 20 secs, free RAM also decreased for no reason. At first when I bought a Mac I was like wow Mac truly is superior to Windows, I felt like making the right choice, but now I am like the heck my Mac's so slow, it's no different from my Windows laptop at all.

Apple, I don't know what you did with Mountain Lion, but please undo what you did. We miss Lion.

I don't see how it is noticeably slower..

I am running Mountain Lion on a MacBook that shipped with Leopard (10.5) and it is much snappier than Lion was.

This machine has 4gb of ram and a 2.0ghz Core 2 Duo.
