I want to get the 24inch but because of previous experience, I am worried about a new generation coming along within the next few weeks. Anybody have the skinny on this?

Here is the quick pattern: Sept. 9th (2nd Week) iPod Update, Oct.14th (2nd Week) Macbook Update, and Now Nov. 11th (2nd Week) iMac Update.

That is veterans day in the US. Not likely. I pick the week after, the 18th.

Either way, you should wait, especially because the next gen 24" iMac is likely to get that 24" LED screen.

i stopped waiting on the date of the macbook event. I was disappointed on their MB/MBP update so I decided to get an iMac instead since I would've used the MBP as a desktop replacement anyway. 24" LED lcd would be nice but there really is nothing wrong with the current display, and I doubt there will be dramatic cosmetic change, if any, anyway. The new iMac will probably use the Nvidia chipset and run a slightly faster CPU along with DDR3 ram. Specs-wise the new iMac will be faster than the current gen (duh!) but it all depends on what you gonna do with it. If you're not using it for intensive graphical work then I'd say difference in performance is not really noticeable.

ohh and since nobody has said it in this thread, allow me to do so: if you need it now then buy. If you don't, wait. :D

Also waiting...

Waiting for my 6 year old xp pc to die. Doesn't anybody write decent viruses for XP anymore? I haven't up dated the virus software for about a year and it's still running v e r y slowly! I might have to spill more beer on it, it's already taken half a can of carlsberg and that just seemed to improve things!

Question for the poster above ^^^^

Where's the best place to get apple in Hong Kong. I got my Macbook and AP extreme in design group in Sha Tin.

Anywhere you know of that ever has any offers?

Cheers

Well since there is no Apple Store in HK, you can only get Apple products through Apple Online or through the "premium resellers." They are all selling for the same price so it doesn't really matter where you get it from, but I'd suggest you stay from from all those resellers (except Fortress) because they are known for their appalling customer service. If you purchase from Fortress you can have 12/24 months installments options too.

Thanks for that,

I guess a trip to Kowloon Tong or Elephants will be in order soon then.

I got my camera in the Fortress in Elements and the guy actually knew what he was talking about.
