The last Mac I've owned was a G4 iBook. (a long time ago) I've been looking into buying a Mac Mini and upgrading it to 4GBs of memory and a 7200 rpm HDD. I'd like to use it to edit photos (12MP), some light video editing (short Youtube videos) and for messing around with the iPhone/iPod Touch SDKs. Everything else, from playing games to listening to music and watching movies, I intend to do on my PC.

Will the $599 Mac Mini, with said upgrades, be able to handle these tasks okay? Should I be concerned with the extra heat generated from a 7200 rpm HDD? (I don't intend to get a SSD) Lastly, do you guys think that Snow Leopard will be released anytime soon? (within the next 2 months?) If it isn't going to be released anytime soon, I have no problem buying the Mac Mini now and upgrading to SL later on.

Thanks in advance!

You should be fine assuming you aren't going to be editing a lot of HD video.

The heat from a 7200 rpm drive won't matter at all.

and apple normally has a upgrade period (usually a month) from the time you bought your computer and when a new OS is released in which you can upgrade for cheap(not sure how much). Also SL probably won't be release before WWDC in june. Now would be the time to buy and you can pretty much guarantee that the Mini is not going to change hardware wise before SL (or even for the next year).
