So I want to create a folder just to save my screenshots and then I want to add it to the docks favourite area. Can I not create it like directly in the finder Window ? I noticed I can only create it If select an already existing Favourite folder and add to it like Airdrop, Applications, Documents, Downloads, Movies.

Can I not create an individual Folder without getting into this tree ? I tried creating it via the Desktop route but then I have to keep the folder on the Desktop also and in Finder and in Dock which is like keeping it at three locations which I do not want to/ And the moment I delete the created folder from the Desktop it deletes the folder from all locations on the Mac.

I'm a little unclear on what you're wanting to do. You can create a folder anywhere you want (pretty much). If you're asking about putting things into the sidebar, you just drag them over. Maybe I'm misunderstanding here.

I will rephrase..

I want to create a folder where I want to only have screenshots saved.

And I want to also drag it in the Dock Quick access area.

I do not want it to be a subfolder of any already existing folder.

i want to create a new folder which resides individually without being under any other folder in the sidebar of finder.

How do I do it ?

So, you want to put a folder called Screenshots into your Home folder.

1. in the Finder, type the key shortcut ⌘⇧H (command+shift+H) to take you to your Home folder. That's the topmost place you're going to be able to do this without causing problems.

2. right-click and pick "New folder"

3. drag your newly created folder to the sidebar

4. [optional] If you're looking to have your screenshots automatically get saved to that location, open the Screenshot app and set the preference there.

Just make sure you follow the directions for your version of macOS. After creating the folder, just drag it to the right side of the dock. You will then have the Screenshots folder where you created it and a shortcut to it on the dock.

Oh he meant the Screenshots folder I would have created ??
Go to Applications > Utilities > Screenshot.app

Open that app.

You'll see a floating control panel on your screen. Go to where it says Options, click that and under Save To, pick "Other Location..." and navigate to that Screenshots folder you just made.

From then forward, any screenshot you take will land in that folder you set up.
