Hi, well dont flame this topic because of the title but i think my case is different than the other ones sooo heres my problem.

Well I want to get an iMac (because they are sorta cheap compared to the others) to do a couple things:

1. Play TF2 and a lot of other steam games
Well thats it but im going to use it for other things like school, music, video and other basic things. I want to find one that is good preferably 24" for less than $1500 and I will probably have to get refurbished.
Should I wait for the next update and get todays one but just even cheaper?

I just need some help deciding and if I make a choice I won't even have enough money until atleast december.

Thanks,
ChrisN

You wouldn't really need a 24", a refurbished 20" 2.66ghz iMac should be fine (for TF2 at least). Waiting for the update is your decision, if you NEED it, which means you have a Dell Dimension 3000 on it's last legs that gets a bsod every 3 hours, get it. If you currently have a decent computer that does what you want it to and you don't need a iMac right now, wait. Again, it's your decision.

That 2.66 one was the one that looked the best in my opinion, the only reason I would get a 24 inch is because of the beautiful screen but its not entirely necessary.

If i were to wait for the new models the current ones would drop right?

Thanks,
ChrisN

i bought an imac yesterday and they are very good. i still finding my way around alot of the stuff because i am a windows user.
i have the 20" one and the screen is very good also. i had a look at the 24" in the shop and they looked similar too my eyes. the 24" would of been far too expensive for my budget, i only got the lowest prices imac but i will update the ram and stuff myself at a later date. i play a few games on this one and the screen is very good. just let u know.

The current ones would drop but chances are apple would have some refurbished models left that they will still sell. The reason why I recommended the 20" is because almost every thread I see with iMac in it is a problem with the 24" screen.

O nice heads up man so I think i'll get a 20 inch liek the one you said so thanks.

Also, Harmush what kind of games do you play because you said you got the lowest priced one and I want to see how the gfx card handles some games.

Thanks,
ChrisN

Also, the 2600 PRO should do fine. Six months ago nobody would really question the GPU in the high-end 20" and 24" iMacs. Apple adding the 8800 kind of made the 2400 and 2600 look obsolete because they know they can get something better, when it will run the games just as well 6 months ago as it will now.

I'm not an expert at games and fps but the all the requirements for tf2 GPU wise is a "directx8 supported graphics card" the 2400XT should be more than enough.

Thats awesome for me than because i have approx. 600 dollars and i have a job so I can make that sooner than I expected :). This is awesome news
