Hi all,

I'm using a iMac PowerPC G5 that I've received from my brother. He gave it to me with a fresh install of Leopard on it, but he unfortunately no longer has the disc that came with the computer that he also used to format it before handing it to me.

With that said, I ordered a new internal hard drive. Naturally, I'll need to re-install Leopard, but I don't have an install disc anywhere. How is this going to be possible? Or will it not be? Do I have to buy a new Leopard install disc? If so where and how much?

Leopard isn't sold anymore so you have to look at eBay or something. If any of your friends have Leopard disk, you can borrow his. In addition, Apple can send you the install disks for a small fee (~25$)

Holy crap. Called Apple earlier and they told me it was $129 for them to send me an install disc. No thanks, I think I'll choose from the plethora of auctions on eBay for one.

Thanks for the help, hellhammer.

Put the new HD into your G5, download and install SuperDuper and use it to Clone your new drive to contain all data of the old drive. (Don't do anything productive during the cloning) When finished, select your new Drive as startup disk, Reboot. After you've ascertained that the new drive works in every way you can do whatever you want with the old drive.

Wow, that a lot for two discs. Hmm... Maybe your Mac is so "old" and it runs old OS so the discs have to be dig out from a warehouse or something. Take a look at eBay for good deals

EDIT: seveej's suggestion is a good one too. You'll just need an external hard drive enclosure (USB to 3.5" SATA)
