want to make a forum link

Hi all im in a little bit of trouble, i want to make a link between my phpbb2 forum and my hope page simaler to how this is set up. were the top ten recently posted in forums are displayed on the home page like this site. so far i have been unable to find a guide to do this. Im pritty much novice at this and would need a step by step kinda thing. i can do a lot of css and stuff but prefer step by step so i dont mess anything up.
please help
