Im having issues with no vibrate at all and EDGE/GPRS giving connection errors randomly...

As I understand it, I download 1.1. and then restore in iTunes.

I can then use ZiPhone to unlock, jailbrake, etc.

Now is this the best way of just unlocking the sim?

I'd ideally like it to be in a state ready for V2...

And yes I know there is alot of threads on this and I have searched but I want to be *100%* sure as I don't want to brick my iPhone.

if u don't want to brick your phone, don't use ziphone. use iliberty instead.
ziphone permanently changes the bootloader so theres a chance for screw up.

iliberty works pretty well. i havnt had a problem since i used it and its stable w/ 1.1.4

BTW, jailbreaking your phone is a necessary part of the unlocking process (as you need to be able to run custom code to patch the baseband/firmware).

If you can be patient, the 2.0 jailbreak/unlock (for 1st gen phones at least?) looks close to being published. I'd guess a few days more. Might be safer to wait for that, and move to 2.0 in the same step.

I have been waiting but this EDGE issues is annoying me SO much!

Edit: The previous owner unlocked with ZiPhone, is this bad?

maybe thats why theres a problem w/ edge.
like i said, the bootloader could be messed up with ziphone... and that sorta messes w/ edge, wifi, and cellular service.

hopefully if u can wait, 2.0 might fix it
(no promises tho)

can you post some truth to this? i am going to sell my iphone unlocked, and would like to be one of the first ones with 2.0 on ebay to get max profit.

I had Ziphone, when I upgraded to 2.0, of course it was the day the new ones came out and I was bricked, but I'm sure when you upgrade regardless, of whether you jailbroke it or not, it restores your phone back to factory settings before installing the software. I tried using Ziphone to bring it back down to 1.1.4 so i can unlock it again, but then it immediately bricked and well I guess I can call it a failed attempt. But it did do one thing for me. I wasn't receiving my emails and that cleared that problem right up.

Of coarse it bricked. ZiPhone doesn't work on 2.0 as of Post Beta 4 of firmware 2.0.

On the other hand, 2.0 is non ZiPhone compatible as the exploit Zibri stole is not there. You basically could have damaged your phone irreparably by forcing ZiPhone on a 2.0 software.

Well edge is working nicely now, although the phone thinks we are on GPRS so there is no E. I know I'm on edge as im getting 150+ kbits.

Basically, I'd like to know how to find out if I have a buggered bootloader and how to fix it back to 4.6 as its one of the last iPhones made. Then I will pwn it back to 1.1.4 to see if everything is dandy and I don't need to get it fixed.

Cheers CR
