So basically I just a new Mac Pro and would like to upgrade the SSD but wondered whether I could swap it out with my rMBP Late 2013 as they seem to have the same speed of drive. I just don't really want to take apart my MacBook Pro and swap the SSDs unless really necessary, plus I don't own the right screwdriver anyway. Could someone help?

Thanks

James

I don't think this will work. I believe Mac Pro memory is ECC, and rMBP is not. There may be other incompatibilities, too.

Oh I didn't know SSDs were ECC, thanks for letting me know. That kinda makes sense.

read the NGFF M2 thread. Vast majority of recent Macs use same Apple PCIE interface. Early rMacbooks were still SATA but with different connector, looked like PCIE but weren't.

Many are interchangeable. Check out some eBay listings of pulls from MBPs - they advertise compatibility with nMP.
