Want to upload photos to iCloud from a different machine

Im going away for a while and family want to use a digital camera...

I was wondering if there was a way that we can use a different machine (a PC) to take the images from the SD card and put them on iCloud?

We are taking an iPhone and iPad but dont really want to use the SD card adapter if there is an easier or free way...

Not in iCloud.

If you are a transitioned MobileMe user then you can still use Gallery for the next couple of months, but outside of Photostream there isn't anything for you to use to upload photos in iCloud.

Was looking at the photostream page where it says:

The photos you import to your library from a camera or SD card are automatically uploaded to your Photo Stream. If you have a PC, you can auto-import and upload pictures, too. Just turn on Photo Stream, grab a camera, and start shooting.

How does this work... ive not got a PC here to try it on..

Damn....you're right. You have to download the iCloud Control Panel utility. From there it creates download and upload folders. In theory you would just load the pictures into the upload folder and it should do the rest.

As it will be from a different machine, does this mean though that everything that is already there will be overwritten?

Photo Stream is not a way to backup your photos. It's a way to move them around. And if you take more than a 1000 photos on your trip (or accidentally upload some more than once) you could have the earlier pictures fall off of Photo Stream.

There are many stores that will copy the photos from your SD card to a DVD for a fee. In my opinion, this is an easier what you should plan on doing. Also, where are you going to find a PC on your trip to install the iCloud control panel? And do you really want to trust your iCloud login to a strange computer?

Going to stay with family so would have used their PC.

Will also have an iPad with me do would have been nice to have the photos on there also.
