Wanted: A World Map

I would love to see a program where you have a 3D globe of the world similar to the program Earth3D, but with the added functionality that you can zoom in close enough to see individual countries, their borders and names. The other functionality would be that you can click on the country and get the CIA World Factbook Information, and or also get the information of the country from wikipedia without having to access the internet.

I know there are many of those in the United States that could really use a program such as this.

Um, built in google maps not enough for you? Zoom right out and you can see the whole world with countries and states labeled.

Yeah, I would jump all over something like that. Google Earth for iPhone, oh yeah. Google Maps isn't the same.

I started a thread a few weeks ago saying I was looking for something like this (and still am). I'd go a little farther and ask for the option to drop different color push pins (say blue for countries/states you've visited, red for pending, green/yellow for the missus, etc).

Earthscape looks interesting but no, that's not what I had in mind. Not sure about the OP but it sounds a little different as well. Maybe if Earthscape gets some needed improvements over the eye candy.

I wasn't aware of earthscape, as some reviewers said it looks like earth google on your iphone or ipod touch. Neither this or google maps is exactly what I had in mind though. The biggest problem with these apps is that they require an internet connection, and I have an ipod touch, not an iphone. And i'm not always near a wifi connection.

I'm not asking for street level view either. I basically want an app that lets me easily look at a world map, search for countries and get information on them when i dont have an internet connection. World Wiki is an app I use, which is the CIA World Factbook and it includes pictures of small maps but they are too small to get an overview of everything.
