I've used the regular MacOS version of the Twitter app for years, and have enjoyed it. It has everything that you can get on the Twitter website, including multi-account support, which is the most important thing to me, but never implemented 280 character support. And now, Twitter is killing their MacOS version of the Twitter client.

Basically, I'd like to be able to have:
  1. Multiple account support
  2. Notifications for retweeets
  3. Notifications for likes
  4. 280 character support
Apparently it's easy to get 1, 2, and 4, but not 3 in a compact application. Twitter's Tweetdeck does come the closest, but you have multiple timelines open at one time instead of one that you click and switch between accounts. And none of the others - Tweetbot, Twitterific, Echofon, etc - have the ability to show likes.

So asking for people's opinion of the best Twitter client for MacOS. If you have an opinion about it, please let me know!

Tweetbot shows Likes, has for a long time. It's in the Account/Notifications tab in preferences. In fact, it has all 4 of your requirements.

About the only thing Tweetbot doesn't do is Polls... and I don't think any 3rd party does
Which doesn't bother me because I am not likely to participate in the polls anyway

I was just listening to a podcast about this whole Twitter situation and they mentioned that there is actually a workaround/hack for that (lack of native polls feature)... but now I can't remember what the workaround was or the podcast I was listening to. But some digging on your preferred search engine would probably yield good results.

Wouldn't be worth the time or effort for me as I wouldn't be using the Polls anyway, but others might find it useful
I just basically follow for sports news and updates (MLB, NFL, CFB) and a few tech accounts
