I live in Australia and am wanting to buy an iphone. I have a US friend who could send me one here. The only thing I'm scared of is jailbreaking and unlocking it. Is it really difficult and could you 'brick' it completely?

mate i'm in aus too and i had a friend in the states and i was worried about the exact same thing.

and i was ******** myself just before i ran ziphone, but i can honestly say that it was soooo easy and its now working perfectly.

you should get your mate to send back a few and sell them to make back some money - i got 2, unlocked the extra one and sold it for a profit and i also sold my ipod touch so it meant that i made a transition from my ipod to the iphone for no extra cost

have a crack mate, its too easy

So say I got my US friend to send me an iphone. I could jailbreak and unlock it using ziphone?

It really couldn't be easier, I had activated and JailBroke my 16Gb iPhone within 5 minutes of unboxing using ZiPhone.

It really is a cinch to do.

It would save me a bit of money having someone buy it from the US store and doing the process myself rather than buying it off ebay but at least I wouldn't have to mess and risk doing something but you guys are making it sound simple!

Also is it difficult to upgrade the firmware from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4? or just as easy

Just as easy. It's pretty much all the same.

Upgrading from 1.1.3, you just do it with iTunes and then re-jailbreak, unlock etc with ZiPhone again.

And yeh, if you buy it from a US Store you know that the phone hasn't been hassled with so if anything goes wrong, you can just restore it with iTunes and start again.

TRUST ME...it's better to run ZiPhone on an out of the box, brand new phone than trust some stranger to do it for you on ebay.

There's literally a 0% chance of you bricking the phone if you follow the 3 part instructions.

1. Plug iPhone into computer
2. Download + Run ZiPhone
3. Click "Do it All!"
