Wanting to try a DFU restore..

I was wondering do I just need the ipsw file that iTunes downloaded when I updated to 9.0.2? Or will I need to download a larger file?

I tried a DFU restore, for the heck of it to IOS 9.0.1 from 9.0.2 after doing a full backup. After I restored to 9.0.1 and tried to restore my backup, itunes churned away for about 30 minutes only to say at the end the back-up was "corrupt". Suffice it to say I couldn't believe it as I had no other backup and thought I lost a vacations worth of photos from my camera roll. I'm not sure how, but after about 3 hours and a DFU restore back to 9.0.2 the restore worked. However, I lost a few years of "my life" in the process.

Suffice it to say a word to the wise. Plan for the unexpected and if you have any irreplaceable photos, back them up separately.

That would be due to your backup was for a newer version of iOS so it wouldn't of been compatible. I always back up my photos before I update etc

Why the heck does the darn software churn away for so long before the error message? That type of error should be the first thing displayed after the "restore" button is clicked. However it was a good lesson for me, as in all of the years I actually never tried doing that.

I guess Apple likes to be complicated

Anyway did you do the DFU with the ipsw file or does it download a complete seperate and larger file?

I shift clicked the restore button and selected the 9.0.1 restore ipsw file frmo the itunes download folder. After device initialization and reboot I selected restore from an itunes backup and selected the backup I wanted to restore. As I said it churned and then gave me the error message. I thought somehow the backup file was version independent, not version dependent.
