Does anybody know a tool, which allows me, while wardriving thought the city to search for wireless access points all the time. Like every 10 seconds or so ?

Does anybody know if there is something like a 12 V Connector ( for the powersupply ) for the powerbooks? That would be interesting.

Well, kisMAC or MacStumbler will do this.

I personally use only my own wireless network and my POV is if you feel that you need to put WEP keys, firewalls onto your own wireless network, why should you go into some elses.

But it is up to you.

i need to do so. Bandwith is expensive over here :D.
and luxembourg city is something like a big hotspot. And often those buidings have 10 mbit inet or so. I want to profite of those lines.:..
i only got 256 / 64 kbit.

I understand you on that reason then.

Beats my 56k...

true :)
just imagine downloading some stuff from the inet @ lets say 300 kb/sec. that would be so amazingly fast . I know some people on the boards got those kind of connections, but well, I haven 't :(

WEP protection is easy to break, but a lot of people are just going for MAC address filtering - i understand its pretty difficult to fake a mac address right?

edit: for those of you who don't know - a mac address is nothing to do with apple; every networking device has a (nearly) unique ID called a mac address.

I use WEP, MAC address filtering AND make the network hidden (you have to type the exact name to get on it).

Figure that's safe enough. :)

Why lock down your system? Share the love, baby.

changing the macaddress is easy :D
it s something you should seriously consider, when hacking. Actually the mac address is the only thing you can get definetly identified with... changing is quite easy, if you know how to write the software.

Well, in an apartment complex the "love" has a chance to get used up in a hurry.

And since I work from home sometimes, I prefer not to take the chance of someone sniffing out passwords.

Might want to get an antennae of some kind too, the wireless reception on my TiBook sucks. Its my only real complaint about it. Everyone's computer gets better wireless reception than mine, and the ibooks are stellar.

This remids me of a story I say on TV about people doing this with a laptop and a Pickup, and just finding hotspots. Why do this? why else... HAX0R on this guys networks, and run... the only way they can be traced is to go to the innocent person, and what do you think happens then?

nobody wants to do that i think.
all i m interested in is surfing and downloading from the net at a high speed, perhaps in a park or inface anywhere. the rest is unimportant.

He may not even need to break WEP protection. I used macstumbler on my ibook as I went from Kings Cross train station in London and travelled the 35 miles home on the train. I stumbled upon about 13 wireless networks only three has WEP turned on and two of the others were D-link access points with a SSID of 'default' so were obviously straight out-of-the-box. I used one of those to surf the web sitting on a train at platform 11:D

What's the default p/w for D-Links?
I know that Cisco-Aironet is tsunami as a u/name after some field research.

the problem with using someone elses internet connection is that it annoys the other person. I used to leave my network wide open for anyone to use and i regretted my decision from the very beginning.
its about 5mbits give or take 3 more mbits.
upload i really don't know and i really don't care.

Upload speeds are important because I'm constantly adding .psp files to other computer over the net.

for me download speeds matter. i hate it when it takes like an hour to download the developer tools.

Don't most Macs come with the Dev' CD?

by the way, i ve not intended to use all their bandwitdht. just looking some nice trailers , or anything, just a little faster than at home..
and, at a connection of 10 mbit do you really think that will slow them down? if they got a good router, he will manage the priorities, so that everybody gets an equal share. :D i know it is not "gentle" but well, who cares.

how do I find the WEP key from a network? just curious to crack my own network, no hotspots here to use :-(
what apps do you guys use? macstumbler or kismac?
