WarCraft:3 crashing

installation is easy mode but once i try to open it the screen goes black like it's loading and then quits unexpectedly.

i couldn't find any threads on the forums with the solution and the 6 step fix thingy on the blizzard forum didn't help either

Patch WC3 to 1.21

Do you have a DivX codec installed? Earlier this year, I'd installed the latest DivX codec and it conflicted with/crashed WC3 (whenever the game tried to play a cinema). Tech support at Blizzard emailed me a custom version of codec that DivX put out to fix the problem. It wasn't publicly available at the time, tho it may have been rolled into any new DivX release.

If patching to 1.21 doesn't work, check that.
