:apple: Hey guys, :apple:

So I play DotA on my 2.4ghz Aluminum Macbook, up till recently I was getting through games fine, no connection problems, no lag, no freezing. Recently though, during games, my computer has been completely freezing. I cant minimize,t he only way to go is to force quit the program.

I have googled answers many times but to no avail, can anyone help me out here? It's crashing pretty much every game. Im running WC3 TFT on OSX Leopard.

Any help you can give would be appreciated, I also run WC3 off of a disk image for convenience if that has any bearing.

I too am looking for a solution to this problem. This seems to happen to me only when I've been running the game constantly for a long period of time (4+ hours). It doesn't happen all the time, and it happens sporadically. When it does happen it scares me every time LOL But yeah, only a force quit fixes it.

This happens in B.Net games as well, not just custom games.

Yea that's my experience as well. I reinstalled DotA completely and it seems to be working somewhat better now. Give that a shot, also, when you reinstall dont try to play right away you need to get the Bnet updates first or it wont run.

There's a possibility that your GPU is overheating, which would probably cause the game to badly crash and would make sense if it only happens after you've been playing for awhile -- I know that the MBPs tend to run hot. You might try playing for a long time with better air circulation and see if it still happens.

I was thinking this was probably an issue too and definitely could be the case. I never experienced it before though in any other years with this MBP that I can remember. Ah well, doesn't affect me too often for it to be a huge concern. Just a little frustrating when it happens.

Generally if a graphics card overheated, it would freeze not only Warcraft, but the entire computer. As force-quit works it has shown that OS X is still running stable, which makes me sceptical that this is in fact the cause of the problem. OS X also uses the video card to some extent to draw things on the display, which shows the video card may not be at fault.

While it may be a pain in the neck, does it freeze while playing in a window (Command-M)? You may like to reduce the screen resolution of OS X to 'increase' the window size - 1024x768 (not stretched) should be reasonable.

I've played online a little on WC3 on Snow Leopard, no crashing. But not very much, maybe 15 - 20 minutes.
How long does it take before the crashing starts?

I think my mum has that same MBP model (SL as well), it's fans go crazy when playing WC3, and it heats up a fair bit, which I think is very weird since it's such an old game.
I'm playing on LAN between the MBP and my Mac Pro and don't have any problems, does it crash on LAN for you too?
