warcraft III freezes when quitting

every time I try to quit a game of warcraft (specifically dota), it always freezes my entire computer, and im forced to manually reboot with the power button. I have a brand new 2.4 ghz mbp, but I also had the same exact problem with my old 12" powerbook. Any ideas?
 
No reason why it should freeze your entire computer. Just used the force quit command to escape. Besides, War III freezes on everybody's machine.

Command+option+escape is your force quit
 
This happened to me quite a bit back when I used to play War3. It was bizarre because it didn't do it every time so I never found what caused the problem.

I tried the keyboard shortcut for force quit, but it rarely worked. I finally just got in the habit of going back to Window mode (Apple+M) and quit from there. That way if it locked up I could force quit from the menu, which worked every time.
 
I play DotA sometimes and it freezes while leaving if I play for like more than 30 mins. So I just command+option+ esc it. Works everytime.
 
Maybe you're better off without the game working. This game destroys any faith I would otherwise have in humanity. It seems to prove that people are only polite, friendly, sportsman-like, etc in real life because they fear the consequences of doing otherwise. As soon as they get to be anonymous in a video game, it's nothing but insults and racial slurs.

I read on here that the dota game was fun, so I downloaded the map and tried two or three games. I honestly don't understand how so many people could have so little going for them in their lives that they are personally offended that someone would be new at their game and not have memorized 100 different acronyms for game modes and types of items.

I'm not playing that game again. Investing dozens of hours into learning the game just to get to the point where your teammates are civil towards you? Forget it. It's nice outside - I'll go play basketball, where people are friendly if only because they don't get to hide anonymously behind their computer monitor.

Do consider that most of the people who play the public games are prepubescent children longing for attention. I'll teach you some of the things I know. Do you play on the US East server?
 
I reported this to blizzard (rbarris) a while back but nothing has happened. It has been like this for me and my friends (all on 2,2 and 2,4Ghz MBPs) for about a year. It sucks

I have the freezing/crash problem with my 2.5GHz MBP. I've also noticed that Warcraft III has a constant 90% or more CPU usage in Activity Monitor, even when I'm only chatting on battle.net. Even though the game isn't optimized for dual core processors, it shouldn't consume that much CPU constantly, should it? World of Warcraft keeps it below 10%, even when stroling around in Dalaran. World of Warcraft also never locks up the way Warcraft III does.
 
I too have the lockup when trying to quit a game of dota. I don't know about the 90% cpu issue tho - I've never checked it. I'll look next time I play.
 
the same issue happens for me, i can only comment about DotA games tho, because that's all i ever use wcIII for these days...

it's odd tho, because if i just wait or go do something else the app always quits successfully. if i don't feel like waiting force quitting always works.

also; DotA is great for learning how to make ppl rage. next time someone calls u a nub, buy an army of couriers and feed them to the enemy. they cost u 200 gold a piece, and when killed, give 300 gold to whoever kills them.

another thing; playing late at night is the best way to not have to deal with loudmouthed pre-teens ruining your games.
 
This used to happen on my iMac, and it used to freeze if I clicked options. Just quit out by pressing command+option+esc. Now it sometimes freezes while going through all my maps, with the arrow keys.

If you're the hero Ezalor you can use your Teleportation ability to mess with your teammates. I've purchased the blink dagger many times and hopped up on a cliff or the tavern circle (top left corner of the map) and ported teammates. Some of them knew the -unstuck command, others did not. :)

hahahahaha

i've gotta try that now

f'n awesome dude, i just learned about -unstuck today, actually; somebody playing as barathrum got stuck mid charge...

also; i've found that in snow leopard if you don't force quit after playing dota then the os momentarily locks on shutdown/restart; gives an error whenever you try to relaunch finder.
