I just finished installing Warcraft III and The Frozen Throne from the install CDs. Went perfect, but then when I tried patching to 1.24b, I couldn't get past the intro movie. It simply played, then unexpectedly quit.
Here is the error log:

I meet the minimum Blizzard sys requirements, so I don't get what's going on.

I analyzed the crash report, and it seems that Thread 3, Miles Carbon library, is causing the problem. It simply has to do with disabling sound, because the problem has to do with my Mac not working well with Miles carbon shared library.
Unforunately, my plist preference file is corrupted! So if someone can please turn their sound off in WC3, go to ~/Library/Preferences/com.blizzard.warcraftIII and send me that file, I would be really grateful! I can't even change it from the startup menu, because it won't go past the intro movie.
Thanks!
Also, it can't be the DivX issue because I use Perian for all my codecs, not DivX.

Try downloading the latest installers from battle.net - you can register your CD key there and get the downloads for free. Those should be more up-to-date.

It took over a day to download the manual patch alone, my internet could never handle that big of a download. :(
I already bought 2 CDs, just to make sure it wasn't a CD problem, and sure enough, neither works even after patching to 1.24b. Please, if someone could just upload their pref file, it would fix my problems...

I've just nuked my preferences for Warcraft and then loaded it and disabled sound. Attached is the resulting preference file. Be sure to remove every preference related to Warcraft from your ~/Library/Preferences folder (there can be heaps of them). I usually have people use Spotlight to search for terms such as 'Blizzard', 'Battle' and 'Warcraft' in the filesnames of the folder to ensure they are all found.

Also, try loading while holding the Option key to have Warcraft load in a Window.

Edit: btw, your preferences are more than likely not corrupted. The preference file, while still labelled as a plist, is not a proper property list file. The file still uses old school resource forks which can be viewed/edited via something like ResKnife (also attached).

So does this mean that WC3 will have issues on the newer iMacs? I just bought the game back in June and have been waiting to get my own Mac to play it on...

I doubt it. The OP has a bizarre problem I haven't seen before. As long a Warcraft is patched up, it should work flawlessly.

Thanks! I actually found your other thread with ResKnife, and tried it out, but to no avail. My guess with the pref file didn't work either... :(
Anyway it's still crashing on Thread 3. I renamed the movies file, reinstalled and repatched, but it still crashes before the startup screen.
Here's my hardware overview:

Really appreciate all the help you've given on the forum. Thanks. :)

i know someone who had the exact same problem on an iBook.
from what i remember, he never solved it

I've been having a lot of difficulties with WC3 ROC since I upgraded to Snow Leopard. I can get past the start up screen but I get really, really choppy gameplay (and I'm on a new Macbook!)). Anyway, I've tried a lot of possible fixes but none have worked so far. Good luck!

Different problem

I finished installing the frozen throne from cd on to my macbook pro, but when i try to launch, a window pops up and says

The application Warcraft lll quit unexpectedly.

Mac OS X and other applications are not affected

Click Relaunch to launch the application again. Click
Report to see more details or send a report to Apple.

Ignore / Report... / Relaunch

This keeps on coming up.

Still Doesn't work

What do I do with the patch?

I opened it but it didn't do anything and just quitted.

Please help - I really want to play

I've seen a few people report this, and unfortunately I do not have an answer. The best you can do is extract the .zip file (so you are left with the black battle.net icon patch file) and place the patch inside your Warcraft folder. Running the patch from within the folder is one way to reduce problems during the patch process.

My only other suggestion would be to reinstall the game.
