WARNING: New touchpad update will make your system unstable!

Ever since I installed the trackpad update Team Fortress 2 (part of half-life 2) the game has crashed on me. I get an error saying hl2.exe has experienced a problem and is closing.

I have a demo of crysis and it too started experiencing problems. I played through the demo before no problems and this time my sound went out and got all glitchy on me.

Restoring to before this update fixed all of those problems.

On to of it the update nothing to make the trackpad useable.

Apple needs to get their act together, this is horrible.

Yes I'm talking about the update for Windows. I think there was an update for the trackpad in OS X but everything has been working fine for me in OS X so I haven't paid much attention.

Anyways, I can't believe Apple released that garbage.

I installed it some time ago, and it's working perfectly for me in Vista 64 (the Home Premium edition). I'm sorry to hear it's giving you headaches, but if it's not working for you, that doesn't mean it won't work for (most of) the rest of us. What version of Windows are you running, on what machine?

Have you run the event viewer to see what is actually causing the problem?
(control panel> Administrative tools> Even viewer)

The update could just be a coincidence.

Don't make huge assumptions if you haven't confirmed them. You can revert back your trackpad drivers.

Huge assumptions? Ok maybe I jumped the gun but here is what I can tell you.

I installed steam and hl2 along with portal and team fortress 2. I played for hours and two different days not a single problem.

I installed the trackpad drivers later on and absolutely NOTHING else. Ever since that point hl2 started crashing. I was thinking maybe my system was over-heating, but it could have been related to hl2 alone. So I tried the Crysis demo seeing as how that would stress the system out. I had played through Crysis before with no problems though. Well 10 minutes into the game my systems sounds goes out and gets all wonky.

I revert my system to before installing the drivers for the trackpad and everything is fine again.

Coincidence? Possible, but nothing in my system has been installed since those trackpad updates and I don't use windows very often. I can't trace it back to anything but that update.

If someone can confirm for me that HL2 Team Fortress 2 runs flawlessly for at least an hour, and also the Crysis demo then maybe it was something else that messed up my system.

And speaking about jumping to conclusions. I'm running 32bit Vista. My problem may be related to the 32bit version. The trackpad problem may be related to something specific to only certain games as well. So unless you try the games I listed in the 32 bit version of Vista Buisness then YOU should take your OWN advice and not make "huge assumptions" yourself.

Someone else listed having a problem so I'm not the only one. Try some critical thinking next time you post.

The update has broken the functionality of Windows on my laptop. I uninstalled it. There is indeed a problem with it and I notified Apple last week on the issue. There are some discussions on the Apple website about this.

For me... I have sound issues, BSOD issues, and game crash issues (Steam/Valve games like the OP mentioned).

This update is certainly a fluke on Apple's part. Hopefully they will quickly remedy this (or at least take the update off their website!)

P.S. I had my problems on Vista 32bit. I know have XP installed, but have not, and will not, try the update.

I can confirm these issues.

Talked to Apple today, and was told fixes were in the works.

I've had the following problems with both Vista HE and XP in multiple Boot Camp installs:

-Cracking/Popping Audio (to the point of audio drop-outs)
-BSOD (applemtp.sys - the trackpad update - being at fault every time)
-App & OS crashes while attempting to run Steam games
-Trackpad issues post-update (mainly tap-to-click over-sensitivity)

Things are running 10x better in XP than they did in Vista. However, problems still exist.

I play steam games too. I have all updates installed including the Trackpad. The trackpad is still oversensitive, but it is not dedicated to the MacBook alone. The previous versions of the MacBook/MacBook Pro had somewhat similar problems, however, it was less distracting because they had a actual button, we have a whole button which makes clicking even more difficult.

Furthermore, Crysis, I also play that. I have no crashes, no faults, I can play for hours on end without any problems. In fact, usually when I'm in Windows, I tend to leave the game running in the background while I open another game and I still have no problems.

I have Windows XP 32-bit and Windows Vista Business 64-bit installed on the internal drive. I have Windows Vista Business 32-bit installed on another hard drive that I frequently replace back in sometimes for work purposes. I'd admit, even though it is purely work based apps, I still have Steam installed with Left 4 Dead, CS: Source and DoD Source. It runs flawlessly without any crashes and drivers are updated (except gfx, those are running boot camp stock)

anyhow i play tf2 and cs:s using crossover but than again its not windows

I've had frequent crashes playing Source games with the audio working perfectly, but the audio in YouTube or iTunes videos cracks & pops as if the laptop were shooting off fireworks.

I'm sure it isn't just my computer, because there are discussions on Apple's website with many users with the same problem. I'm wondering if this problem affects all users or just a few.

I also have audio pops. Disabling the wireless card will fix this, not always the best solutioin though. If you need your wireless card to be enabled then you can look for a program called vista anti-lag. That should do a lot to improve the situation, although it won't completely get rid of it. If anything it'll make the audio pops less frequent and not quiet as annoying.

I don't use the trackpad to play FPS games? I have tried, its a pain on any type of touchpad.

Wireless card causes the audio pops, lags, yadada. I usually only play games at home so having the wireless card disabled in windows, at least for me, is not much of an issue.

I've installed the Trackpad update and had no problems at all on my MB. TF2 still runs like a charm, Fallout 3, Bioshock... No crashes at all.

But TF2 with a trackpad...
