Warning to those who install Accelero X2 on Mac Pro

Yes it does make it quieter but make your Mac Pro run a lot hotter. With the old stock cooler the fan blow hot air outside the Computer. But with the new Accelero X2 it now blow the hot air into the Mother Board, making the Computer run hotter. If you put your hand back at the back of your Mac pro where the graphic card is you notice no air is blowing out. This is because it blowing all the hot air directly back into the Computer now. Try running intensive apps and play game for awhile and you notice your fan is working harder and your whole computer running hotter.

Maybe you did something wrong. My temps before and after the X2 have only increased by 3F, and my fans are not working any harder.

Overall temperatures went up only by a little but what about the local temperature on the motherboard? I'd also stay away from this cooler. If the x1900XT dies, get another. Motherboard is much harder to replace once out of warranty ($$$). I like the stock x1950XTX cooler by ATI as it exhausts outside of the case and it's a lot quieter. I'll try get that:

That is a very nice Graphic Card. Look so much better then the ATI X1900XT. How loud it is? Only problem is that it's Crossfire and is not supported on a Mac.

And about the Accelero X2, even with how well the Mac Pro built, it's good with air ventilation the Accelero X2 still blow hot air into the mother board. Overtime, it will put stress on the mother board. The reason the mother board temp stay low because the Accelero X2 is a good cooler, so temp doesn't rise much. But if it ever continue to rise on the 65 - 75 the hot air will put a lot of stress onto the mother board, making fan work harder. And forget about taking out the Accelero X2 when you put it on. It stuck on for good. Taking it off will put too much stress on the card and yank out the Ram on the card itself. I try taking it off to put new Thermal paste onto it for better heat performance, but it stuck on really good.

I'm talking about the cooler, not the whole card. And the cooler will fit on the x1900XT just fine. I read some reviews and it's very quiet. I scoured ebay but couldn't find anything. It seems these x1900 are dying for some people so a better cooler might help.

I think that photo is of the x1950xtx, non-crossfire.. Not sure.

Either way,you're right: not supported by Apple. Flashing wont work either.

Found a proper cooler. Now all I have to figure out is who sells them which is turning out pretty hard right now.

I don't know whether anyone cares but I found another good one with the help from the [H] forums. This just went on sale so it might be tough to find in the next little while.

Make sure you post here if you find a place that sells the TMG AT1 cooler. I want to get rid of my Accelero and get that one. I tried looking for a place that sells it but couldn't find any.

Altho I have my accelero and I'm very happy with it. I run temperature monitor and I don't notice any problem areas. I can't hear my computer AT ALL now. It's great.

The Thermaltake looks much better with lots of fins and the heat pipes. Plus it's made specifically for x1800/x19xx series unlike the Vantec. I'll wait a little for the Thermaltake although I think that Vantec is certainly better than the X2.
