macOS 14.1 is BAD!!!

I Spent OVER an Hour on the Phone with Apple Tech Support...

Even Evan could NOT fix the Damage Done by 14.1!!!

Do NOT Install macOS 14.1!!!

it is Seriously Flawed!!!

/\/\/

I’ve installed every Sonoma developer beta since WWDC. Other than a few minor issues with mail, I’ve never had a problem.

What Happened to MY Mac mini M1 was...

After Installing 14.1

NONE of my Programs Worked!

I use "MagicJack" as my "Phone Line"

but, in 14.1, when I "Click" on it

Rather than "Opening" it just "Disappears"!

Well... Actually...

Everything that WAS on the Screen

"Spread Out"

(which makes them "Appear" as though they've "Disappeared")

Evan (Tech Support @ Apple) could NOT do ANYTHING to Help me!

oh... the REAL "Pisser"...

I could NOT "Boot" from ANY of my FIVE "BackUps"!!!

If YOU have had Better Luck then "Good for You!"

I've been FORCED to resort to my OLD Mac mini

(which is Running on macOS 12.7)

call apple again, get a different tech person to look. & make sure they do a screenshare, so they can see what's going on.

also, backups are not bootable. whatever's happening, a (better) support person should be able to help you sort this out.

I have also ran every Developer beta of Sonoma going back to WWDC, including 14.1. The only app I ever had an issue with was Affinity Publisher, which would automatically quit whenever you switched focus outside of the app. That issue was fixed relatively quickly by the developer. As far as Sonoma itself, it has been remarkably responsive and stable since that first Developer beta back in June. Sounds like your issue may have been caused by the Magic Jack app itself rather than the OS.

Funny, I was going to move one of my machines from macOS 14 to the latest 14.1 beta to try and resolve a few issues. My MBP is running 14.1 with no problems.

i don't care what evan did. YOU should call apple and try again. getting help has to be more rewarding then going on the forum and posting a 'sky is falling' rant. but do whatever works for you... 🙄

Have you tried restoring the Mail App to factory Settings and then manually setting up the Mail Account again?

What about restoring your Mail Folder from a Backup?

I know the whole "good for you" thing applies, but geesh... I've got my iCloud Account, a Microsoft Account, my Comcast IMAP Account, a Yahoo! Account, and 3 Gmail Accounts all setup in the Apple Mail app and have zero issues. What kind of Mail Account is this you're working with?

Look... if "Something" (ANYTHING) messes up your Mac...

it IS a "Crisis"!!!

I can NOT Access ANY of my FIVE Back Ups

I get the Error Message:

"You can NOT 'DownGrade' to an Older macOS!!!"

If I did NOT have my "Old" Mac mini (late 2014)

I wouldn't even be able to Access the Web

to WARN Others that the Sky is Falling!

you're not getting it at all. and if you don't want to get help, nothing anyone can suggest will matter. but when ONE PERSON has a crisis, it doesn't speak for everyone.

call apple again. or post info here, about the mac model you're running, details about what happens, etc.

Does your MacBook have an "M1" Chip?

Running 14.1 on my M1 MBA with no issues.

If beta SW causes you a crisis, just stop installing beta SW.

And, listen to the advice given above

get help. call apple again. or get someone to come over and help. or get to an apple store.

what's happening for you ISN'T typical; something specific is causing the problem(s). and if you can, post details about as much as you can here (about what's actually happening), and the people on this forum may be able to help.

@ Twic. It's always better to install a new OS on an external SSD instead of the internal one.
Personally, I tried the 14.1 beta 3 on an external SSD and some bugs were solved.

i've never done that, and no one else i know does that (altho people on this forum do). either way, it offers no help to the OP, who already has 14.1 on her mac.

if @twic wants help, there are options (like this forum). otherwise, not much we can do...

what is a "MagicJack" as my "Phone Line" ?

can you use the App Store or a apple source for Sonoma?

im having minor issues with Sonoma M1 MBA
but not enough to go ballistic and post doom and gloom threads here
and I would sure never bother a  tech over this.

just go bcc to what you time machined......
oh Time Machine, great Snow Leopard tool we dont use now.

231012_143143

unlike MOST People I can NOT "Afford" to have a Plain Old Telephone Line...

So, for OVER a Decade I've been using MagicJack

It costs $31.95 a YEAR!!! (or, it DID)

Due to "Popular Demand" of Mac Rumors

I called Apple again and had the Pleasure of Speaking with Kyle!

It took a LONG time, BUT, I was Finally able to Download and Successfully install MacOS 13.6!!!

231012_142822.png

Kyle listened Closely to me (and my Complaints)!

He "Understood" my "Reluctance" to trying to RE-Install 14.1!

Together, we were able to SUCCESSFULLY Download and Install Ventura 13.6

I am VERY Grateful there are People who know so MUCH about the Mac!
