My Nexus 5 battery died and warped my phone, so Google have sent me a new one. Happy days.

My question now is what do I do to get my new phone exactly the same as my old one.

Out of the box I've updated to 4.4.4. The 5.0 update isn't appearing under System Updates. I don't want to root or sideload anything, so now what? I want to get all my apps and settings transferred across but isn't that a Lollipop feature only?

Do I just wait until OTA update appears? This is really, really annoying.

Also, the replacement phone doesn't like wireless charging. I can't be bothered getting another replacement because of it, but it is annoying.

Is it a new one or a refurbished one ? Just wondering with the wireless charging not working.

Anyway - sadly you will have to set it up manually - albeit your apps should have downloaded when you entered your google account settings. But pictures / wallpaper / folders / home screen layout will have to be done manually.

As for lollipop - some people reported clearing one of the google 'cache's in applications makes the device refresh and therefore can sometimes get the OTA - however I'm not too sure - just google it. :)

Thanks MRU.

I've fixed the wireless charging, loose clip in the back just needed a squeeze.

Apps tried to download but I want to get to 5.0 before I install anything.

I thought there was a new NFC thing where you tap phones and it transfers everything?

So I cancelled all the app downloads as I was on LTE and don't have the data for all those downloads. Now I'm on Wifi it's not resuming. How do I get it to download the apps I had on my old N5?

How is this so difficult...

Yeah there is - but I think you need lollipop in the primary device.

Thank goodness the wireless charging was nothing to worry about :)

I understand regarding apps too, you want a clean slate - start with a device on lollipop and then install your apps. That's the way I prefer to do things myself too.

I had to flash lollipop onto my Moto x 2014 because the OTA was not showing up which is far from ideal.

Here's a reddit post regarding how to try and force the OTA. As you haven't set anything up yet - you have nothing to lose giving it a try :)

Previously when I have cancelled the automatic restore on a device - I have then had to manually install them from my 'all apps' section of the playstore.

not ideal again. Try the post to get lollipop, then after updating lollipop - do a factory reset - so you have a fresh clean setup screen - and enter details and see if it will now auto download your apps again.

Thanks. I'm just going to use the old one until OTA update appears. Tried that method of clearing data a few times to no avail.

I don't really understand how I can have one N5 with OTA 5.0.1, and one with no OTA 5.0...

Yeah I know the way google and android rollout the OTA is at times really annoying.

Oh well at least you now have a new phone from the broken older one. Happy New Year by the way too :)

Happy new year to you too!

Given up waiting and just set up my new one manually. Old one is on its way back to Google. I'll just get Lollipop whenever I get it. I must say that going back to 4.4.4 has really made me realise how much better Lollipop is.

If you still have the old phone, why not just download the official image from Google and flash it to the new one, then transfer your stuff over?

https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

That's the beauty of the Nexus line, SANCTIONED ROM flashing! Granted it's with Google-provided ROMS but you get the idea...
