Warranty Replacement Question?

Hi Guys,

Recently I've had a lot of bad luck with my 2007 20" iMac, Its been in and out of repair since mid August and finally today after taking it back in again for what was going to be its 5th major repair in 3 months (Its had two new Logic Boards, 3 new HDDs, a new Super Drive, New OS, new mouse, new keyboard and several cables replaced) Apple decided that the system was a write off and have told me that they will be sending me a brand-new "new-for-old" upgrade to one of the new 2010 spec systems and I'll have it delivered to my door within 2 weeks.

Obviously overjoyed at this out come I forgot to ask what spec system I will be receiving as my replacement, I guess it doesn't really matter because any new spec iMac should be better then my 2007 edition one but going from the spec I bought back in 2007 (2007 20" iMac - 2.4Ghz Intel Core2Duo) what do you guys think I will get as my warranty replacement?

Also more importantly, what will programs like Aperture, Photoshop and games like WoW-Cataclysm run like on the new iMacs?

Recently my 2007 2GHz iMac was replaced with the new base model.
Since yours was in the middle, you may recieve the 21.5 inch with 3.2 GHz, 5670 ati model.
I heard people got their 24 inch model replaced with 27 inch.
To find out exactly what they ordered for you, is to ring them.

How do you find the new iMac base models performance in comparison to your 2007 iMac? Have you tried any gaming on it or Photo editing software?

I'm not sure how things are these days with Apple but back when I bought my original iMac upgrades were way over priced. Even if we just look at the price Apple are asking for an additional 4GB of RAM (£160) but this RAM can be sourced from Crucial where I can get the full 8GB for only £125!

If, as you say, Apple are 'phoning you tomorrow, why bother to ask questions on this forum? Surely they are the most likely to be able to answer your queries.....

Curiosity is a killer is it not? And would they be able to answer my questions in regards to the performance of the system while running the different programs I listed and I'm not just talking about an "I think it would be ok" response which most places seem to give.

Also, not to be an arse in response to your reply but I'm sure that a large amount of the questions posted on here could be answered by either visiting an apple store or by contacting them via Phone or E-Mail. I just opted to discuss things here instead..... maybe MacRumors doesn't want to build an active engaging community?

Hi, every spec is superior than older models, except some cases where they replaced a dedicated card with a integrated card.
In my 2007 iMac I had the ati 2400 and now got the ati 4670. I played Left 4 Dead 2 on both and the obvious answer is that the graphics are so much better and the game loads faster.

p.s I'm from the UK too, they said it would take 2-3 weeks for the new iMac to arrive but mine took 1 week!
