Here's the deal. I'm planning on putting the ibook in my sig. up for sell in the next few weeks but I had a question about the warranty. It is still on the 1-year warranty from Applecare(till mid-Aug 2006), and I'm wondering how it would transfer to the new owner? I've looked at Apple's support website but was unable to find any info on it. Maybe I'm just deaf, dumb, and blind so I might have missed it somewhere. I just want to make sure that I provide any info the new owner might need if they have to take it in under warranty.(ibook has worked fine since day 1 but want to give the buyer the security) Also, does the fact of it being bought used prevent the new owner from extending the Applecare on it. If anyone has experience with this, any info would be appreciated. If you have the link to the proper Apple website that would be help also. Thanks

You can call AppleCare and transfer it to the new owner, but it's not neccesary if the new owner has some kind of bill of sale. I have done this before and the folks at AC are very helpful. As long as the original 1 year warranty is not up, the new owner can buy the APP for it. You may want to spend the money and attach it yourself because you will sell it faster and easier-- at least from my experiences this has been the case. Are you a college student? You can get an education discount on it at an AppleStore (bring your valid IDs) or the online store if so.

Double-check your serial number to see when exactly your 1 year period ends at http://www.apple.com/support/ and enter your serial number under the heading "About your Support Coverage" on the right hand side toward the bottom.

Good Luck,

Thanks for the advice. I already checked via the Apple website and it gave me a date of Aug. 15th.

It looks like I may be selling it to one of my parents who needs a computer. They've been without one since they got fed up with their last PC and got rid of it a year or so ago. If this is the case I'll add the extra coverage myself before i sell it to them.

It should be interesting since they haven't worked with mac's before. My brother will have a fit since he is a self proclaimed Microsoft "whore" and hates Apple with a blinding rage.

Thanks again for the info.
