Behind the lens
So, I rarely burn stuff with my 20" C2D iMac (non AL). But when i do, at full speed, it makes a horrible vibrating noise, like a whirr that I cant stop no matter what. Thankfully, full speed means less than 3minutes of burning, but still...

I dont mind it really, but if I try to resell this sometime, its a real downer.

My 1yr warranty is up Feb 2nd, 3 days.

Should I call apple? What do you think they would even offer to do?

There aint no store within 100 miles, nor an authorized repair center within at least 50.

I'd call them. The least they will probably do is offer you applecare as your still within 1 year (just). Or you might get someone in a good mood and they will offer you more help/advice. What you got to loose?

Definetly call apple, i can't see you loosing anything by doing it! What if something happens in 3 months. Then you can say that you called and they dismissed the problem etc. (if they do that)

Im just afraid they are gonna ask me to take it to a store, just for a noisy burner, which is not killing me or the computer. Only its resale value, and possibly my neighbors on the other side of the thin (super-thin, im not kidding) walls of my office.

And I dont want to drive all around, to stand in line, or drop it off, just for a burner.

Maybe, Id just be happiest with them saying send it back to us, we'll send you a brand new machine!

Yup, buy Apple Care or call them up now. If it's a problem they can do things through mailing.

You need to use the factory disks to test to see whether it makes noise, or it could be a bad batch of unbalanced CDR.

Buy Applecare.

Smartest advice I could imagine.

Apple Care will also boost resale value, at least it did for me when I sold a Powermac with one year left on it.

OK then... buy apple care or call them and hope theyll let you send it back.anyway hope you end up happy, what ever you do.
best regards

total time on phone: 80minutes give or take

i was doing stuff, have speakphone for the "holding", so not a big deal.

quick note: you cant buy applecare over the phone in Florida...everywhere in the world he says, but Florida.

so I bought it from the apple store online while I waited.

basically, my choice is to bring it to a genius who will diagnose and fix it. closest is 90miles. so, ill wait for the applecare box, activate it, and eventually get to an apple store.

to bee continued...
