An old staple of the computer industry byte magazine was at one time something many of us looked forward to getting our hands on. Pre internet pretty much.

I found a little while back that it had sort of relaunched under information week but even though that was not long ago it seems to have kind of faltered already.

For anyone curious the url is here: byte mag

There is one columnist Larry Selter who posts a couple of times a week but that seems like about it plus they apparently pull in some feeds from everywhere and put it out as news.

One of my old time columnists is listed there and he as a couple of things but not a lot of activity unfortunately.

Keeping my fingers crossed!

I heard Gina Smith and some others discussing the new Byte on This Week in Tech a few months ago. She was supposed to be the Editor or something like that, but it looks like she is now nowhere to be found on the site. Like you said, there doesn't seem to be a lot of content on the site. I don't think that will cut it in the tech news site world.

I very fondly remember Byte magazine way back when. My favorite columnist then was Jerry Pournelle (I didn't know at the time he was a famous sci-fi writer!). This was back in the 70's long before the IBM PC or the Apple II, when we had the likes of MITS Altair, Ohio Scientific, PET, and many others. My hobby was a home brew S100 computer with a Z80 processor, cassette tape, and a whopping 2KB of memory!

Jerry is listed on the new site ( he was the one I was referring to ) and has a couple of postings but not very active. Mostly apple related stuff the little that he does have out there.
