..coolest laptop by far. I couldn't say much for the MB's or MBP's.

The reasons voiced in my other thread on in the MBP sub-forum:

I certainly hope  doesn't try to put an ugly black rubber surround or black bar on the next MBA revision

Agreed. I prefer the less shiny screen and the much more beautiful aluminum bezel. I'd be disappointed if the next MBA took design cues from the Pro lineup.

The MBA is the sexiest on the outside (closed) but the sexiest open has GOT to be the MBP. You HAVE to love that glossy screen. I'd buy a glossy screen MBA in a heartbeat.

The MBA does have a glossy screen. It's just that it's less glossy compared to the MBP since it doesn't have the additional glass covering it.

You must have been looking at aesthetics and not the specs. If that's not the case, then you really missed what's important. ;)

C'mon Apple.....4GB of RAM in the next Rev.

That would be cool.

I disagree but it's a matter of taste I guess. If we're talking PURELY aesthetics, and not usefulness, I think the black edge to edge glass makes for a better looking display on the MBP compared to the MBA. The glass trackpad on the MBP looks better too - I hate the nasty looking button on the MBA. The hinge also looks cheap on the MBA (and is prone to breaking) while the MBP has a better looking and more solid hinge.

Thinness wise, the MBA looks much better than the MBP when closed - but that's about all that it beats the MBP in when we're looking solely at aesthetics.

I love the vanity in this thread. I agree the hinge on the MBP looks better but that's because I prefer black to the muted grey on the MBA.

However, the MBP's ugliest aspect is the front part of the unibody. It is the perspective that really makes it look like a fat chunky machine compared to the MBA. The small white LED and the infrared are swallowed up by a big aluminum block. On the MBA, the aluminum body is so thin that it curves around the led light and the infrared.

+1

I know this is all opinion based but I hated the look of the UBMP until I owned one. Now I love it and dislike the old look.

you can get a MBP without the black bezel/glossy screen and it looks pretty neat with an aluminum bezel with a thin pipe of black.

i do agree, the MacBook Air has a place in every mac users heart. it's existence is to perform one thing, and it does it very well.

The screen on the MBA is MUCH better than the MBP's imo.

There's zero reflection from the MBA's screen indoors compared to seeing lights and shiny objects reflecting in the MBP's display.

The MBP is almost unusable outdoors on a sunny day.

Agree. Love the design. It does need to be updated though.

I have both the glossy Macbook Pro and the Air and like both. It would make sense for the Air to be updated to match the rest of the product line, but adding the black bezel and new glass trackpad might add a few ounces of weight, and I can't see Apple adding more weight to the Air unless they can take it away somewhere else. It certainly wouldn't look good in the advertisements for a new Air to be heavier than the old one and would provide fodder for Apple critics that base their arguments on hardware specifications.

My guess is the next revision will have 4GB of RAM and the new batteries and possibly come standard with a 128 SSD. I don't think SSD prices have come down enough to jump to a 256 and maintain the current price point. In most cases, when Apple upgrades a model they maintain the same price point while upgrading the hardware, which for the Air is limited to memory, storage, and speed.

If the tablet rumors do come true I can also see the Air being discontinued. The Air may have been Apple's proof-of-concept that incorporated unibody construction and SSD while making a DVD drive optional in a consumer laptop ; look for a bigger push to SSD in the Pro line. The DVD drive may also start to disappear on some models.

I totally agree. The glass screen is gorgeous. I have both the AIR, and MBP, and I am really hoping the air update comes with the glass trackpad (or something similar, with no buttons) and looses the silver bezel, which seems really dated now...
