was looking forward to the camera on itouch

So the camera did not make this month on the Itouch ..If I buy the iphone 3gs will all the apps and camera and all the goodies work even if I don't have the phone activated . Have no need for the cell phone just the wi-fi, and the camera. Maybe one day when there monthly package for data and cell time come down A bit..thanks inadvance

First of all, I apologize for everything rude that the people below me are going to write about you calling an iPod Touch an iTouch and for not using the proper capitalization of iPhone. I honestly don't care, but others on this forum get their panties in a wad. Ignore them.

In theory, you can use the functionality of an iPhone ( sans Phone ) if you unlock it ... but it is kind of a pain in the butt for a people that is new to the iPhone such as yourself. To be honest, the camera isn't that great to justify buying one just to have an iPod Touch with a camera. But if you decide to do it, there will be plenty of us here to help you.
 
To tell you the truth it really is not worth doing it just for a camera. It will cost you a lot more money. Most likely $200-300 more just for that camera. It will also be a huge pain since you will have to jailbreak/unlock it. Just pick up a really small point and shoot camera for $100. Wait until next year, I'm sure the Touch will have a camera on it by then.
 
OP, you can do this, but it won't be as easy as walking into an Apple or AT&T store (assuming u r in the U.S.) and walking out with an iPhone that functions like an iPod Touch. As someone pointed out you will have to unlock it, in which case if you get a 3GS with 3.1 on it you are SOL for now...
 
the camera that could fit in there wouldn't be as good a quality as the thicker iPhone camera. Which is my guess as to why there isn't a camera in the iPod Touch. They didn't want people expecting an iPhone camera and getting worse.

i did that on purpose, as i read another post where this guy was asking something serious about his macbook , the first thing someone posted in reply was hey you didn't finish putting the a in the word camera he spelled it cam or camer and clearly made a simple mistake , now all of a sudden all my english teachers are spell checking all the post and there replies just make no sense to me. clearly the question had to do with the mac or other mac related item since this is mac rumors not english lit. ohh i didn't spell it out . So ipod iphone caps or no caps or too many caps is just silly.

can you are someone help me better understand this?? i own both iphone 3G S & ipod touch and the only thing my ipod touch doesnt do is make phone call (when im not connected to wifi and no camera). so if the touch can do something the iphone cant please PLEASE let me know so i can do it!!!! :D
 
see others do want to buy an iphone for the camera

I think it is A viable solution for those who want the apps the wi-fi and the ability to take quick pics of our kids. Since the touch is around 3-400 bucks. why not just buy the Iphone and use it the way we want . As an mp3 player slash camera/texting device . I work in A hospital and I love texting on my Itouch for free , but no camera . Hence the purchase of an Iphone "unlocked",jailbroken or what ever is needed to enjoy all the Iphone has too offer.Thanks for the constructive crit. on spelling and grammer . But really only scan for answers..
 
No, your iPod Touch doesn't do anything the iPhone 3GS doesn't (except not require you to have an AT&T voice and data plan).

Your iPod Touch, however:
1) Lacks true GPS
2) Lacks a camera/video
3) Lacks a compass
4) Probably has a slower processor (if prior generation)

Get a old (pre GS iPhone) if you MUST have a camera.
 
Well ok. I dont need none of things to be honest cause my phone covers that. Thank you tho i really appreciate the input. I did think it was something a little more special that i thought i missed out on.
