Was planning on getting a MBP but got a MBA instead

Just picked up a MacBook Air today.

I had been waiting for the new MacBook Pros to come out but the more I realized what my wife and I wanted in the computer (internet use and to be used on our kitchen breakfast bar), the MBA seemed to be the right choice.

After using it for a couple of ours (on our breakfast bar and in the living room) we both think this computer is awesome. This is our first mac (we have a Dell desktop) but we haven't even begun to see how OS X compares to XP. We just really love it as a small laptop that is great for regular internet use.

I really think this computer is great for people who have another computer but want to be able to access the internet or do regular computer tasks from any place in their home.

Couldn't agree more, if consumers don't have issues parting with some cash. Two weeks later and I still love my MBA. Don't regret the money one bit.

Ditto! Totally LOVE my MBA!!!!! It just lends itself to being easily carried wherever one goes, at home or out in the world....portable as heck and yet functional as can be, too. Apple has done a wonderful job with this machine!

Congrats! I just got mine too.

When it was first announced, I was underwhelmed by the specs, but actually, it's way more powerful that my G4 Powerbook was. After thinking about laptop like tasks, I realized that the MBA makes the right compromises IF you have another computer for heavy lifting.

I just got a 24" iMac for that stuff, so the MBA fits the bill. MBPs are awesome, but too big and heavy for daily use.

As time goes on and the MBA form factor gets more powerful, I think we will see a transition to this design across the line.

Another day and still loving it.

My wife said the one thing she wished it had was a touchscreen like my ipod touch. Do you think that will come in future generations of the MBA? It does make sense for what Apple seems to want to accomplish with the MBA.

I'd also prefer a second USB port instead of the monitor out adapter (they could have made the mini dvi to dvi incorporated into USB). I don't care about the lack of the firewire.

Finally I'm guessing that a larger hard drive won't be an issue in version 2.0 or version 3.0 as either SSD prices will come down to allow a 128GB drive or they'll figure a way to put a 160 or 250GB HDD into them.

The convenience factor just can't be beat. The price is a little bit high (wouldn't consider it without purchasing the Superdrive or ethernet adapter), but if you're willing to spend, it really is great.

Well, the technology exists to make it touch screen, but I honestly think that the reason it does not have it yet is that it would be gimmicky.

I'd hate smudges on the screen and really, I can't see the utility. It would be awkward to move your hands away from the keyboard to manipulate the screen.

Now if they came up with a tablet form factor... that would be interesting, but for very specific uses.

I think there could be uses for a laptop as well. I would not want the keyboard to be the touchscreen. A true keyboard adds a lot. Using the screen to open up applications or scroll through web pages would be really nice on a bigger screen (bigger than Iphone/touch).

I think if smudges were that big of an issue people would have problems with the iphone and ipt. Iklear works very well and touchscreens are becoming very popular in cars (Lexus and Infiniti)

The other nice thing about a laptop over a tablet is that the screen faces you and isn't flat on a table. I agree though that it would also work very well on a tablet.
