Was the Mac Mini i5 2011 HDMI flicker issue ever fixed?

Hi,

I know there was a known issue with flicker but I can't seem to find a fix - even after searching the forums and other online resources.

Can someone tell me if this issue was ever solved please?

I've just bought a used Mac Mini mid 2011 2.5 with the AMD Graphics chip.

As soon as I plugged into my receiver via HDMI the flickering started - there were no problems when connected to directly to Plasma TV. Thunderbolt connection has the same issue when plugged into receiver but fine with TV.

My receiver is a Marantz 1605 and my plan was to play Hi-Res audio from Mac Mini via HDMI connected to the Marantz hence my need for HDMI/Thunderbolt connection between Mac and Marantz.

I'd seen that fix (EFI update 1.7), but it only works for 2012 Mac Mini's

I tried it on my 2011 Mac Mini and OSX wouldn't allow me to install it.

I've now tried changing various video settings on the mac as well as on my TV. Have also tried 4 different models of HDMI cable to connect Mac Mini to A/V receiver and flicker is still present.

Even when using my macbook pro to screenshare the mac minis desktop the flicker is still there - as long as the Mac Mini has the HDMI cable attached to it. If HDMI not attached then flicker is gone...

Currently updating from Mavericks to Yosemite in the hope of an OSX updated fixing it.

Please help!
