I recall that when Lion was first announced (Correct me if i'm wrong), that they said that the server part was going to be free. According to Apple's site, they're going to charge for it: http://www.apple.com/macosx/server/

Why have they changed this stance?

This kind of sucks, since we have a Mac Mini media server in our home and it would have been good to play around with. Oh well.

I don't remember them saying it was going to be free. Only part of an add on.

Still, why charge so much?
Whaaaaaaaaaaaat? Snow Leopard Server costs US$499. Lion Server costs US$49 (plus the cost of US$29 for Lion, which you need to buy Lion Server). Significant price reduction there, IMO. :)

Thats because its supposed to be 499+29+49!

I am sure that if you want to install the Server Add-ons on a Lion pre-installed Mac, it still will only be a $ 49 charge.
Not sure about the non-Server 10.6.x installs... pretty sure that even then the 10.7 Server would only cost $ 29 + 49.

Unbelievably cheap. :apple:

Considering the fact of Xsan license being included for free in 10.7, the price reduction is nothing but tremendous (Xsan 2 is currently priced $999).
