Use case:
Airpods connected to both phone and Apple watch. I put the watch in my bag, put airpods in my ears and get ready for my bike home. I open the Overcast app on the watch and starts playing the podcast I want to listen to. Overcast app is functioning as a remote for the phone, so it is accessing the phone, but when I start a podcast, it plays through the speaker on the phone.

What I expect:
That the watch either 1) detects that the airpods are connected and plays the podcast through them, or 2) that the phone detects them being plugged in and sets them as default output.

All in all, the airpods are wonky. They never seem to connect right to the phone. It works like 50% of the time that they are connected correctly, so this may be an issue with them, not the watch.

Please give me some input if you have some. Thanks. o7

Why do you put your watch in your bag before riding your bike home?

Also, you say that the airpods are connected to your watch and your iphone. They can only be connected to one device at a time.

Maybe try to duplicate your issue using the build in podcast app, so you can figure out if it's an airpods/apple watch issue or if it's an overcast issue. FWIW, I do the same thing you are trying to do, but with the build in podcasts app & it works fine for me.

I have never had any issue with the Airpods connecting to my phone or watch. Have you gone into Bluetooth settings, found the Airpods, tapped the "i", tapped "Forget this Device" and tried to pair them again?

I assume that you have also synced the podcast to your watch using Overcast. It is possible you have a faulty set of airpods. How long have you had them?

:D lol, an error on my part. I put the Phone in my bag naturally, the watch stays on the wrist.

Ive never used the normal podcast app, since it does notsync podcasts to the watch, a feature needed for jogging for example. But I'll try to reset them, give them a new name and add them to watch and phone again. I've added them to all kinds of devices here at home, so the issue might be there.

Ive had them for about 8 months I believe.

THanks for your feedback guys, ill try resetting and adding again.

Just updating for future internet reference. The AirPods are performing better, in the sense they correctly connects to either phone or watch as they should, after forgetting them on the phone - and connecting again. I did not try to reset them, as there were no need.
