My watch keeps unlocking my MacBook while the lid is shut and it should be asleep. I get an alert over and over again that my mac has been unlocked. So I open the lid and what do you know, its unlocked. Anyone else experiencing this bug?

That's odd. I was under the impression it should not attempt to unlock with watch unless a key or trackpad/mouse button is pressed to wake it.

Does it still happen with the lid open? Can you try removing any external control devices to make sure they are not sending spurious input? Perhaps run your finger over each key on the keyboard to make sure none are stuck?

If you don't want the Apple Watch to wake your computer, then you need to disable the Bluetooth option to do so:

No, it is supposed to unlock the laptops as soon as the lid opens.

Right, sorry, lid open too. Basically any form of manual wake. So, again, try leaving the lid open temporarily and see if the problem still occurs. If not then perhaps there's some sort of sensor issue.

So while the lid is open and mac is unlocked nothing happens. But shortly after closing the lid and sending the mac to sleep my watch starts unlocking it

So it definitely sounds like the Mac thinks it should be waking for some reason, perhaps a faulty sensor, perhaps a software issue. I'd suggest you check Console for clues but it's borderline freaking useless in Sierra  (or is it just me?). Anyway, it sounds like you'd have the issue whether or not you had the watch to unlock feature, it's just that the feature has made it obvious.

Not sure what to suggest other than the PRAM/SMC reset dances and if that doesn't work, level and reinstall. Sorry. Sounds like a frustrating problem indeed.

It may be a software glitch or bug due to the Sierra Beta (in one of the versions the unlocking refused to work for me no matter how many times I checked the box, now it's flawless). If resetting the PRAM/SMC doesn't work, maybe wait a few days until the next update comes out and see if that fixes it (?)

For the record, the method @fischersd suggested is a bit of a botch job. You want bluetooth devices to be able to wake the computer if you use many devices like speakers, remote controls, or keyboard and mice.

The precise option for the Watch is in Security & Privacy:

Additionally, the issue is clearly that the Mac is waking while it is closed and thus requesting an unlock from the Watch. And this is likely still happening and should be investigated and @Feenician's suggestion to leave the Mac sleeping with the lid open is a good first investigative step.

Oh, so your suggestion is to turn the feature off then? (as there's no controls in there to modify this behavior when the lid is open vs closed).
The problem is that the watch feature doesn't care about the status of the lid. They haven't put a differentiator into the settings for unlocking with Apple Watch for that yet.

Either the Watch is waking the Mac (which it shouldn't be) or the Mac is waking itself (when it shouldn't be). Turning off Wake for Bluetooth is just burying the problem. OP needs to figure out if his Mac has always been waking spontaneously due to a faulty lid sensor for instance.

You DO know that you're notified on the Apple Watch when it's unlocked the Mac, right? And that's what's been happening to the OP when he gets within BlueTooth range of the watch.

Yes, so clearly the Mac is already awake! You are assuming that the Watch is waking the Mac when there isn't even an active Bluetooth connection outside of the instant when unlock authentication is requested from the Watch.

I'm going to try putting my mac to sleep with the lid open and see what happens. Also putting back the bluetooth option to allow devices to wake the mac. Since the watch is not supposed to wake the mac this will be a good test.
[doublepost=1473017393][/doublepost]Put mac to sleep, lid open, it never spontaneously woke up. Closed lid, never spontaneously woke up. So for time being bug is gone (hiding). I'll let you know if it returns. Thanks for the help

This has been happening to me too, on my (late 2013) 13 inch rMBP, since getting my new series 2.

It's pretty frustrating. Did your problem return?
