People will eventually understand the limitations of LED backlighting tech lol. The old iPads literally are blown out and the blacks have always been grey, and you’ve never noticed any Haloing being the whole display is evenly blown out with no type of local dimming assistance. The new iPad In the video looks like your standard and modern attempt at performing like any current high end FALD LED/MiniLED TV. They ALL have some form of noticeable Haloing especially watching a movie in a dark room and the brightness turned up/HDR video is enabled on whatever content youre watching. I’m still interested to see if apple has some kind of control over the display controller to change how aggressive or laxed the local dimming can be via software Like most tv manufactures that push those tweaks to their displays all the time via OTA updates.

I still feel like the dimming zones are smaller than what some of these videos show. I think they could tighten up the active dimming zones and really help to reduce the haloing. Even reduce the brightness behind the static items as well. No need for the battery and time to be overly lit in the corners.

Interesting comparison. I wonder how it would look in a "normal" well-lit room (poorly defined, I know). I usually use my 2018 12.9 under those conditions and virtually never in a dark environment.
