Watch won't take as long to charge as iPhone does

The watch's battery life will last the whole day, Cook says, in another revelation that will please potential users, and it won't take as long to charge as an iPhone.

I think we all suspected this but were still unsure because it's inductive charging. So maybe if charging times aren't that long one can charge it at night before they go to bed and then wear it to bed to track their sleep or use as a silent alarm. Jony Ive did say someone on his team was using it as an alarm.

Nice! While fairly obvious in retrospect, it's a good thing to have mention because he's directly noting concerns among the market.

The thing too is, when Cook says he charges his watch overnight that doesn't mean it takes the whole night to charge. The other question would be, does the watch need to be fully charged to last a full sleeping night? Or could the watch be at 80% and last 7 or 8 hours?

I wonder if he is referring to charging an iPhone with the iPhone charger or with an iPad charger, or if doing the latter would also speed up charging the Apple Watch.

I'm slowly increasing the price at which I'd be willing to pay for the Edition. I really like the look.

I hope Apple doesn't screw this up by going crazy with margins. If they price too high everyone will flock to the aluminum one. But I have to believe all the questions we've been asking here are also things Apple leadership has thought of. Hence my tiny sliver of hope that we get some surprises at the event.

I've wondered about this ever since they talked about sleep monitoring.

If it charges in a reasonably short amount of time, you could put it on the charger while doing your bedtime routine (assuming you have one) and put it back on before retiring - or, similarly, put it on after you wake up so it can charge during your morning routine (assuming you have one).

Or you could just charge it during shower time - which may not be a bad idea anyway, water resisitant or not.

People have wondered because Watch charges via inductive charging. I charge my iPhone 6 with my 12W iPad charger.

I wonder if they hadn't decided upon the prices. That said, 18kt gold watches aren't cheap. I expect the stainless steel versions to be popular, and so I think at least some varieties will be around $750 with leather straps. We'll find out a week from Monday.

Awesome! This is something I have been wanting to know about. I would love to be able to take my Watch in the shower so I can get notifications on my wrist. You have no idea how many important calls I have missed in the shower.

Very plausible, though 5% (or less) to 100% could take just a little over an hour. In lithium ion the last 10% to 20% takes the longest. However a 70% to 80% charge could likely last for a full day of use.
