Watching lectures on the iPad (I need an alternative video player)

Hey guys,

I'm a medical student who is thinking about getting an iPad, but watching lectures at 2 or 3x speed is very important to me and must be possible. I don't believe this functionality is available in the native player, so is there some alternative player that CAN play videos at 1.5, 2, or 3x speed?

This is the only thing holding me back now!

A different video player is only going to be available when via jailbreak.
 
What other features would you be interested in for med students?

I am a faculty member at a medical school and one of the reasons that I am getting the iPad is that I predict that they will be showing up in the lecture halls at an increasing rate. Since the iPad is an excellent content viewing (as apposed to content creating) device, exploiting the unique capabilities of the iPad for delivering educational content interests me. Since med students have such a large volume of information to digest, the iPad could be a useful tool as we reach the new generation of medical students.

I am waiting for my iPad 3G to come sometime next week, so I can't answer your question yet, but I will look into it when I get it.

A few questions for you:

What format does your school use for videos?

Are you seeing many iPads in the classroom yet?

What other features would you like to use for school?

Sorry for answering you question with a lot of other questions, but I am excited about the potential of the iPad in med schools and would like some input. :)

Sorry for the late response:

1.) My University currently provides lectures in Real Media format or in Quicktime format. I use VLC to watch the quicktime lectures at 2x speed. My university also provides podcasts to listen to lectures.
2.) I know a few colleagues who are already using the iPad, two of which are using it to study for the boards.
3.) I would like to store all of my books on it. I have so many anatomy, microbiology, pathology, cardiology, etc. books. I want to have all of them on one handy device that I can carry around. I feel that the iPad will work well in this capacity. I can imagine for the future, taking the iPad to see patients could be useful, especially if the patient's record is put on the iPad (if, of course, some type of secure way to do this is implemented in the future and approved by HIPAA). Also, the iPad can be used for epocrates while seeing patients, although my iPhone functions perfectly in this capacity already. Perhaps a more full version of epocrates made specifically for the iPad can be created. Finally, I think we can all use anatomy review from time to time. Having an interactive atlas on the iPad would be incredible.
