hey everyone, as you can probably tell by reading this message, i am new to mac computers but i am lovin my ibook!! it is great. i do have some questions though that i was hoping someone could help me with. first of all, i have a bunch of movies on disk that are of the .avi type and my quicktime player will not play them. does anyone know of any other software that i could download from the internet that would play them? my second question is about webcams. i know that apple has a webcam but i cant drop that kind of dough on it as i am a starving student. does anyone have any suggestions on a good webcam that they are using?
thanks again for the help everyone

VLC is a good choice for watching .avi movies.

You can also download some codecs for quicktime so it can run avi files.
oi can't remember exactluy which codecs you'll need.
ac3
divx
3ivx

I did notice though, on one movie that the .avi quality on the VLC was much better than on quicktime.

VLC

Hi

I would also recommend VLC. The display quality of the movies tends to be better in comparison to quicktime. It also seems to be more efficient, since the processor load is always lower when I watch a movie with VLC instead of quicktime.

Cheers
